At least this isn't GameFAQs. The DmC board there sucks. Big time.
Probably the worst place to look for DmC news and true opinions about the game.
At this point Dante was close enough to an iconic character that using an argument that he wasn't cool didn't work. Do you make a point of calling Mario or Sonic not cool? Also rebooting a franchise after 9-10 years seemed ridiculous to many at the time. Also DMC series wasn't about now it is an alternative universe. I actually liked some of the Victorian inspired outfits/settings.It wasn't negative, it was just a harsh truth. How Tameem explained it was about the contemporary ideas of what "cool" is, because that's what Dante was. However, Dante was extremely campy in an "80s action hero" sorta way, it was awesome, but it wasn't relevant to modern tastes. People like that are joke characters now, and instead we gravitate towards those "badass" archetypes in film and gaming. That still comes down to people feeling idiotically feeling insulted because of what Tameem said about .
.
The original Dante trailer looked pretty close to Tameem so I can see why some people thought that, but that doesn't make it true I guess. And the 30 fps argument wasn't about advanced tech, no way would 30 fps affect that. 30 fps was about responsiveness. Also the game has soft lock-on like GOW so that assumption was also true. Except that GOW runs at like 50 fps in some areas. And dude E3 is like is like 8 months after the TGS, and the following TGS would be 12 months (after original trailer), that's a long time. And they only showed minimal gameplay in trailers at that point without a hud.Haters did stick to a lot of false sentiments or just plain stupid reasoning. The only Heavenly Sword influence is how the weapons are switched. Nothing else is even remotely like that game. A lot of them said things like this game would be a GoW clone complete with QTEs. Completely wrong. They said that due to 30 fps, there would be no advanced tech. They were completely wrong. They said Dante would be emo, despite Tameem saying that they'd show how Dante becomes the guy we knew from the very beginning. They said Tameem based Dante on himself. He's had to come out and make it known that he didn't even design Dante, let alone base him on himself.
Tameem didn't insult the series or it's fans, but the haters spin EVERYTHING he says negatively. Or at least they try. The things they can't spin they leave at, "lol Tameem," and ignore.
They showed gameplay at the next big show. It wasn't a whole year. It was TGS to E3. They said at the reveal they weren't working on the gameplay yet, so they couldn't have showed any.
They have ALWAYS called it a rebirth/reimagining. Capcom/NT never once called it a prequel. The media did. They always said it was a retelling of Dante's origins, to explain things never fleshed out in the original games.
30 fps and soft lock-on weren't bullshit claims, and the reason this was done was because that was what NT was used to, let alone it's almost impossible to create 60 fps games using UE3. Hell even the mediocre action game Dante's Inferno ran at 60 fps (different engine) and it had a decent amount of action going on in the background. If people still don't understand why some ppl don't like the 30 fps and soft lock-on then I don't know what to say.No, it really does, because all those fans who trash the game do hold onto old sentiments, like Tylquan said above me. they refuse to let go of their bullshit claims, and they refuse to listen to reasons why changes were made
I'm a regular there. I've been dealing with the crap DmC board for years. It's just a terrible place to discuss the game unless you hate it with a passion.
Liking DmC in GameFAQS is like a death sentence. You won't stand there for a long of time if you were positive about the game. You have to make lame jokes about DmC,NT and New Dante so they count you as a true DMC fan. Never respect other people opinions and DmC fans. They hate the game for the stupidest reasons.
I was correcting some facts about Vergil's DLC there. It was like talking to a wall, No joke. It's the worst place for a lot of games like TWOxACROSS said.
Man....reading all of the criticism this game is getting REALLY makes me ashamed of becoming a gamer and a fan of this series in the first place. The nostalgiafags need to understand that Tameem isn't going anywhere. I really miss the old gaming generation where everyone just...you know....just shut up and enjoy their games and if they didn't enjoy it, they returned it back and not talking about it on the internet. Thank god for school so that I would have to worry less about stupid stuff like this. (not the game, the criticism)
Anyway to answer the topic question is that the game might have decent sales, not bad, not good, but decent. Though I could really see this game having really positive reviews but time will tell.
Let me tell you this straight up, Youtube is the only place you'll see that many haters because it's the "cool" thing to do now. Listen, every game has haters, no, EVERYTHING has haters, but, the only difference with this situation is that these haters don't know what Devil May Cry even is. They never played games like it before, and they'll never give it a chance because they don't want to. It's just people blindly hating on this game without right. DmC: Devil May Cry will do fineI really like the way DmC is shaping up, it looks great and I'm sure it'll play great. But at this point the more I see the more I think it won't matter; the sales will be terrible.
I know internet comments and Youtube likes aren't exactly the most accurate measure of anything; but when you go on official Capcom forums, Blog posts, and etc... and find that 9 times out of 10 people are saying that the game looks terrible and they won't be trying it. Then you see some company do a preview video on Youtube and say the game looks good; it gets 100 Likes and 900 Dislikes.
Then there's the little things too. Recently they've announced free DLC for pre-orders, and a demo that's far and beyond any demo I've ever heard of. I'd like to believe that this is just Ninja Theory being awesome and kind, but part of me wonders if maybe it's because the pre-orders are low and it's an attempt to get more people interested?
I really think DmC will be a good game. But just because something is good doesn't mean it will succeed and I think that far too many people have already completely written DmC off.
Maybe I've just been online too much lately and some of the negativity is starting to affect me.

LOLwhen i was a youngling, the only thing i was concerned about when Video Games were released was the cover! and DMC2 had the best cover art in the whole store!!.......alas..........I fully agree. I love the old days. Let the game speaks for itself and if you love on playing it then keep on enjoy playing. What got hooked me on the first DMC game is out of curiosity and the concept and I'm loving the hell of it. And the rest is history.
