Combat Overview Part 1

Gaflima

Son of no one.

With the DmC demo already in consumers' hands, people are quickly figuring out lots of secrets to getting the most out of the game's combat system. A simple YouTube search will reveal scores of videos showing off combos both basic and advanced. If you're looking for a good place to start, however, you might enjoy checking out the Combat Overview video Brelston and I put together. You can check it out after the jump.
We'll also be following up in a little while with a second video which will delve into some of the game's more advanced combat techniques. In the meantime, why not discuss your own combat tips over in the DmC forum?

Aquila is now a riskier weapon...getting Air Raid parried back at you...that's gonna suck peanuts.

I think it's good when your own weapon may damage you...

In the clip, the weapon killed Dante, because his own attack was parried by a enemy. and not only was parried, but his attack was sent back to him. In DmC (demo), you parry some enemies but they don't suffer any damage ( except the ice demon or whatever he is...) So, it adds for a little of challenge.

Hopefully, that means you have to watch your steps instead of attacking enemies like crazy by smashing buttons...This no GOW...XD

Perhaps the player must attack enemies carefully. At least, the ones that use shields. Spamming attacks may result in serious damages.

I believe enemies may parry attacks more on DMD mode. So folks, there is challenge for who said the game was easy as a piece of cake...

heh. The top comment states that you can get SSS with just the axe.... right.
Welcome to YouTube.

Good video. I wanna play with the Aqulia so bad! I love the nightclub stage! I just watched a full video of that stage, it's so AWESOME!

Why does getting SSS with just one weapon **** any of them off anyway? In past DMCs there's been combat adjudicators where the whole point was being able to get SSS with just one weapon.

I must say that the he really sucked at the previous games. lol
If you aren't hit it's quite easy if you have your moves. But I must say the demon dodge is extremely powerful.

Gregaman "But in this game you can actually do those [pause combos] in mid-air too" But you had Nero's roulette attack as a pause combo in dmc4... Also I'm missing the ending string of pause combos you can opt to do like in DMC3 (million stab for rebellion, beowulf--ends with "sweet dreams", etc..) Those were fun to do. Only good difference I like is that when you switch weapons you maintain your position in your combo string.

Probably because the axe is one of the more boring weapons to use. The string rebellion two attacks, then arbitrer is insanely broken... Personally I'd hope they increase the damage on angel weapons so you can use them just as much.

I really want NT to lower the power in exchange not to make enemies flying while using triangle combos...I don't see why that happens. Also I want a aerial combo with it, not shooting the axe head.

I keep hearing about how powerful that demon dodge is... but I haven't figured out what people mean by it. Unless I'm completely deaf, no youtube video I've seen specifically mentions it.
How do you do it, and what is so special about it?

Well...first you have to make a perfect dodge with it.
If you success, it seems your stylish rank doesn't go down in that state (Or really slow)
And your weapon powers will rise with a bonus of extra stylish points which makes a very strong synergy with Aribiter. It's quite hard to perfect dodge then trinity smash, but it will make your rank up to A or SS depending how many hits collided to your enemies. Also making a demon dodge and activating DT shows impressive power that you can easily kill both the red/blue knights with half of your DT.
Never thought my favorite axe will be so strong. It will make your game like bayonetta, really

After you use the demon dodge all your attacks get a huge boost in style points. If you do the 2 swings with Rebellion then switch to the axe to finish with trinity smash you can go from nothing to almost an S rank if you hit one enemy but if you hit 2 enemies you can go from nothing to a SS or even a SSS. Ive only manage the SS myself.

There's still more circumstances to making Arbiter "insanely broken," which no one wants to see to take into consideration whenever they make that Arbiter = SSS claim. Arbiter is certainly a factor in getting the SSS, but it's one of many :/

The problem is that it only takes 4 moves to get anywhere between and A and SSS from nothing using the axe and demon dodge. The Arbiter itself isnt the problem, the problem is the style point boost from the demon evade.

Even that requires the use of Demon Evade's power boost, which requires timing. People just keep claiming it's all just the axe, when it's not. There's always more circumstances to it than just the weapon. They make it out to seem that just using Arbiter once or twice gets you to a full SSS, while ignoring all the other stipulations to the process like that.

I still think it's okay since Arbiter leaves you open a lot. That risk requires you to be very presence of when and where you whip it out :p

when you do the rebellion into arbiter combo it makes it pretty easy.. And I'm pretty sure the demon evade gives you a damage boost and and from what I've seen the amount of damage you do in the game adds to your style meter (would make sense with the arbiter giving you sss)in addition to certain moves giving different style points.
Also doing trillion stab after demon dodge gives a lot of style points as well..
For me personally I don't care as much about the style meter but to some people and especially mission complete rankings, it matters. Also I'm pretty sure if you farm style points and flunk every other rating, you still get a SSS mission complete too..
