So I know two examples personally.

First GODZILLA

The first attempt at an American made Godzilla film was an epic fail

The animated series though..

Was awesome

Another good example

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, s#!tty movie, tv series is one of my favorites

Anybody else know any examples?

One word: Daredevil.

I can't remember if I ever saw the movie, but my mom did and she thought it stunk. And she is really easy to please when it comes to superhero movies/tv shows. So I'm assuming the movie was terrible. The Daredevil show, on the other hand, is excellent.

Great thread by the way!

I know I'm in the minority here actually thinking that Daredevil movie wasn't that bad, but you're right. The Netflix series totally blows that movie out the water. It is amazing.

Can't wait for season 2 of Daredevil. The Punisher is coming!

The thing can also work the other way around. Star Trek made a horrible movie but it was culturally iconic show. Some transitions don't work on either direction. Thank god for the Wrath of Khan.

*supergirl. i know the tv show isn't for everybody, but i dig it (more than arrow and flash at the moment). plus, it's waaaaay better than the movie.

*constantine (already established here)

*agents of shield (go watch nick fury agent of shield...then come back...)

Hannibal. Now before somebody throws pitchfork at me, I just point out that I think Silence of the Lamb still best Hannibal Lecter movie out there, but TV show manages to be much better than Hannibal (2001) and Hanibal Rising. Not saying they were bad. Just saying TV was better, with Mad Mikkelsen being awesome Hannibal without trying to knock off Hopkins.

they can toss pitchforks at me. i think the tv show is better than the movie so far. but to me, that's a default of the difference between a serialized program and a film

also, batman. the timm/dini batman show was primarily made to hype up the movies, and it took a lot of cues from it. but i feel like while they treaded the exact same ground, the show did it far better than the movies

SPAWN.

An atrocious movie....

But a legendary, albeit painfully-short animated series, well-worthy of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other 90's classics like Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles.

Right??? This show is so criminally-underrated. It's the ONE thing that got me into reading the comics, and despite making countless promises over the years, Todd McFarlane hasn't made another show! He teased the Animation Project years ago, but he's sat on it during all the time he's putting into writing the script for the fabled Spawn reboot---if that will even surface one day...

I've heard that the movie is going to be part horror and part "2 AM crime-thriller"....which only gives me tingles of anticipation, because that's exactly the kind of tone the Animated Series had...the tone I absolutely loved.

I think what it is, is when I think of Spawn, I imagine the animated version, and tend to forget there was a movie. So that's probably why I didn't think to add it.

From what I heard, if we do get a new Spawn movie, it'll be "less Iron Man, and more The Conjuring".

Kinda forgot about Spawn, because when I watched it it was re-cut into three animated movies instead of TV.

It's honestly better cut up as movies. Much like the Star Wars: Clone Wars show from 2003.

I'd add them to this list, but frankly, I'm in the minority that liked all the prequels that weren't Phantom Menace.

I only found out that it was TV before it become movie, because in credits they forgot to remove some character mentions that were cut from final version (for example Angela's cameo was never shown)
