Guys these are MASTER PLAYERS here from what I'm reading. All of those frames of invincibility and such are things that only very, very experienced players would notice. I bet the frames are maybe 3-5 frames. In 30 fps, that translates to 1/10-1/6 of a second. In Devil May Cry talk, that's a lot. In every game talk, that's normal.
Dark Souls has an exploit like that. A well timed dodge can give you 1/10th of a second of invincibility (perfect for PVP against elemental weapons). Broken? Maybe. But it's normal.
Now the auto-lock thing...either Arkham City/Asylum, or just press the R stick. Why can't they do that??? There's an extra input right there. Press the R stick and just move it around to change targets. I'd like that.

That is solely based on one persons opinion, cause he can't no longer do a stinger (and a few others) like in the previous games... dudes please>_< , you gotta learn to learn new things, it's different not broken and yes definately in need of polishing

I'd say it just needs some polishing. Especially that auto-lock. That's a game mechanic that's tricky to have in an action game. But really...the original DMC's also had this. If you didn't press the hard lock, you were attacking the enemy closest to you. I don't know how 'broken' DmC's is, but if it's close to the original series's, that'll be...passable.

One does not simply master DmC overnight :troll:
Betcha I can.
Sorry, mate, but he's right. This game looks like DMC4 and if you already mastered 3 and 4 then your set. How many hours do you think it'll take to get used to then new mechanics? An hour or so for the new controler scheem? A few hours for all of it? One night for those who are acomplished players sounds about right.

Ehh I'd give it a few hours for people who are gifted (me). Now going through ALL of the moves and combos...that'll take a while. Hell, I played DMC 3 for a long time and still didn't find a way to fit Nevan into a combo.

So the gameplay is broken. So is DMC3 and 4... what else is new? It's the difficulty that makes these games not look as broken. And the demo was the easiest piece of crap ever, of course everything you do would look broken when you are fighting enemies that just wait for you to whack their faces off.

When he says master i think he means more than get used to the new game. I think he means know all the little tricks and such like what frames and certain moves that are good to JC with, which moves have invincibility frames ect. Just being able to get through the game doesnt mean you mastered it.

Always f#ckin' hated the lock on in DMC. The first game I played was 4 and when I found out I had to push Two freaking buttons and move the joystick in tandem to perform a roll, I wanted to throw the controller out the window. The control scheme in the last two games is WAY over-blown for a fast paced action game! I don't care how much of an impression the games made on you, or how the pros can cope just fine with this with the years of mindless practice they put into these games making them a lifestyle decision, the controls needed to be completely overhauled as the move-set expanded.

it did kinda suck that you had to lock on to an enemy just to do an evade roll, because sometimes you would lock on to the wrong enemy and because of that you might roll into an enemy's attack, so i'm glad they did put the dodge onto one button. however i do still like the old control scheme, but i also like this new one.

I don't know about DMC2 3 or 4 but in DMC1 you can just push the jump botton to avoid damage. It's not like it's the roll or nothing.

Avoiding damage is variable in any action game depending on the attack. You jump away to avoid wide sweeping attacks and can roll to avoid smaller, more precise ones.

The roll is essentially better than jumping because it has faster recovery and has more invincible frames. Jumping has invincible frames at the start but you are a sitting duck with the landing.

The good thing about jumping is the inputs. You can simply press one button, jump, and you have dodged. Rolling required you to press three, not to mention you had to bet on targeting the right enemy in order to press the analog stick the right way to perform it.

No no no. I have to disagree. Jumping is better than rolling. Why? Cause you can jump in any direction right and then double jump (or wall jump/ enemy jump/ dash) into another direction then shoot to float. On top of that your strongest attack is done in the sky. I feel that when you roll, you have only one exit out of it and you can't cancel.

Ninja Gaiden does everything right in terms of slimmed down controls. The block button (guard) is also the dodge button where moving the analog stick allows you to roll in that direction. Imagine that scheme was in Devil May Cry where the block was royal guard. No more need for that pointless style switch.

That was the first thing that needed to go. It needed a complete overhaul. However, I do feel the need for a hard lock-on.

There is no guard button. Parries and Witch Time do not count. Royalguard made it feel like you were fencing.

I'm not asking for a Dreadnaught or an Ultimate, I'm just asking for a True Royalguard.

Now, they're just trying to mash everything together. Yes, DMC 3 and 4 control's scheme were somewhat broken, but even I'll admit that they were the lesser of the two evils.

Why can't Angel and Demon mode be on L1 and L2? There would have been no need for two dodge buttons had that been the case. There may have been room for a Royalguard button, even, since there's no hard lock-on.

Is Devil May Cry just destined to be just broken in general? Are we doomed to action games that can't have every last detail?

I don't understand how that works. There are seventeen buttons on the controller, it can't be impossible to include everything. Difficult, yes. Impossible, no.

.
True.
I believe that the Demon dodge should have been changed to a royal Guard parry. Three different evasive moves (Normal roll, Angel dash, and demon dodge.) PLUS the option to jump away is too much as far as dodge options go in this game.

Dead rising 2 : Off the Record has a great dodge feature, equpped to dodge in AT LEAST 4 directions without having to lock on to anything, you just press down the left analog stick and move the direction you want to.
