A look at the game mechanics.

Actually, I believe we should stop since we're off topic.

Yeah, and mine is golden and makes me invisible!
Found it in some bloody muddy river. I call it ahh..my precious!!

Back to the topic.
I see that the dodge is broken. But playing this series I rarely even used that tech. I only use it while I'm royalguard.
Or throwing grenades in DMC2. Bah, come to think of it I ALWAYS roll in DMC2. I can't imagine DMC2 without rolling because my Dante isn't Dante but a pillbug.
Even if it's broken I think I won't use it because ground-playing is not the main star in this game.

Some people were saying that the dodge is broken as it has a lot of invincible frames compared to other DMCs.

I don't really mind the dodge, but we will definitely be using it a lot more than in other games. Air combos or not, demons have projectile attacks that will still hit you if you are in the air, that is why you can even dodge in mid-air now. And the dodge is just one button as well, not like in past DMCs where you had to be on the ground, lock on to an enemy, press left or right on the analog stick, and then press the jump button. Now it's just... press a button... done... you don't even need the analog stick, except for where exactly you want to dodge to. So it's like 100 times easier, 100 times more effective... sort of deal.

Actually, its not all that simple. The dodge is still dependent on what direction you and the camera are facing, so really its not anymore effective than the original.

A really effective dodge is one like Bayonetta's where all you had to do is press the circle button and she would dodge the same way no matter what direction she was facing.

?? the circle button wasn't the dodge in bayonetta. it was RT/R2, and DmC dante's dodge is very similar to bayonetta's dodge. just one button for simple evasion which i'm glad they did.

Whoops, my bad.

It's not one button, there are two. R1 and L1 are now evade buttons.

Actually, there's quite a difference. DmC's dodge is still camera- and player postion- dependent, basically the same pet peeves that were in the original dodge is still there, they just changed the button format, where as Bayonetta's dodge is just camera dependent.

You see, Bayonetta's camera was focused on her, so she was always in the center. . So no matter what direction you were facing, you dodged in the direction that you wanted to go.

DmC's camera isn't dependent on anything, it's completely free, and the dodging system is still dependent on what direction you were facing, basically the same kind of mechanics like the original DMC with the only difference being in camera type. This would mean that the same problems can come up. The only thing that can prevent that is if NT would fix the camera system.

well what i meant by similar to bayonetta's dodge is that it is now one button (i know there's two dodge buttons) that you press along with the analogue stick in the direction you wanna go much like bayonetta's.

Oh well, yeah, definitely. I just wished they made the action itself alot more... simple.

Now, I'm just missing Bayonetta.

Anyways, I don't see how he dodge system is broken because of the fact that it has a bunch invincibility frames. That doesn't make it broken, just makes it less likely for you to take damage while you're dodging.

i don't' see how it's broken either, because i've still seen dante get hit while dodging, so it's not like your invincible everytime you dodge. in fact in the new club footage the dodge looks like it goes a shorter distance so they may be tweaking it.

I think Dante will randomly dodge in any direction if you just press either of the bumpers, and in the air he will just dodge in place, doing that flip thing. So the analog stick is simply for a more precise dodge so you know exactly where you want to dodge to.

I don't think the dodge is all that broken, because yes, you might still get hit anyway if you don't dodge correctly. But, like I said, it is much more emphasized this time around... and much like in Bayonetta, they are aiming for you to use it more often. Hell, you even have the demon dodge now, which gives you a power up. The only thing I remember something like this happening in DMC was with Nero and his table hopper move thingie... which I never even used since all it did was give you three extra dodges after so you looked cool, but it was the most useless thing in the world.

then why have two buttons that do the same thing

They could just simplify things by making the circle button a dodge button and make the Angel and Devil buttons lock- on buttons as well to use the old fashioned way of juggling.
