I was walking down the street one day and saw an out of shape woman with pink hair, a tank top and very revealing shorts. Instead of running away in disgust, I muttered to myself "What a brave woman!"
My point is; the SJW comes for us all. Nothing we can do to stop it.
@Viper To answer your question, yes he is bound by species and *used* to be bound by gender until they rewrote the lore about 3 years ago. This really does smack off a gimmick to try and save the show's failing ratings. And worst of all, is the fact that if the female doctor fails then the people who didn't like it will be blamed. :(
Wikipedia mentions already in 1986 had show's writer Newman spoken about the idea of Doctor one day being female. In 2010 and 2011, which was seven and six years ago but who's counting, 11th Doctor introduces into the lore the possibility of turning into a female. At most you can complain about poor casting, but Doctor having a vagina is hardly just sjw pandering.
It is a little bit. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not completely against it. But it does seem like a lot of moves like this are made these days just to keep on making a point about women being accepted in this, that, or the other. It's not like we live in a world where if you're a woman you can't be a soldier, or be a footballer, or become President of the United States of America.
And the worst part about it is that any criticism of it is shouted down. For example, I was watching a panel show this morning that was covering Doctor Who and when one of the audience members stated he was against the idea, one of the panellists said that if it were for people like him "slavery would be enforced and women denied the vote".
No, but we do live in a world where popular entertainment was mostly about male heroes and female as his companion for the longest time. Yes, movie makers are known to latch onto recent popular events, gotta pay bills after all, but when will it be the right time to introduce more female heroes? Cause people just keep complaining more and more about everything. Continued...
Doctor Who has been running for decades and had 12 male actors in main role, I'm more inclined to believe they wanted to take a step away from the same formula before routine ruins the show.
I dunno if it'll be decent or not, but fact that actress started speech with "as feminist" already displays that it'll be more about feminist agenda that about sic-fi adventure, so **** it.
How’re we supposed to make our own characters when all the supposed fans of a series set them up to fail before the series is even out? This is what happens every time a female character is introduced: if she has the same traits that are appreciated in a man, she's called a b*tch & heartless. If she’s in any way not 100% devoted to serving her male costars, then she's not to be trusted & a terrible person. (cont.)
If she's sweet & soft, then she's called weak & pathetic. How’re we supposed to make our own characters if no one will let us? More to the point, the show's not out yet right? For all we know, she could be the best Doctor yet. Or she could flop & they'll have a man next season. The lore's allowing them to try something different. It's not a bad thing, it's just something different. Give it time before you condemn it.
Stop right there. Genderswapping existing characters isn't "making new ones". For all I care make comlpete new spinoff about time lady and her adventures. Make dedicated season to companions. But swapping character who 50 years was male with female for sake of pandering is digesting imho.
I loved capaldi because he understood his role. With this it seems she was only choose to push propaganda, which in my opinion doesnt belong in any kind of entertainment media.
Shadow wasn't suggesting that gender-swapping existing characters counted as creating new ones; she was pointing out that *when* new female characters are made, they tend to fall under heavier scrutiny and harsher critique than male characters do. This isn't even a matter of opinion--it's truth. (Continued...)
