Everyone said that CW was better, so it was the divine hand of Superman who had to prove everyone wrong.
Obviously, AB isn't better than either movie, but it proved that just because a certain film makes more money, doesn't mean that it's better than the other flick it's competing against.
Looks like people are interested in Angry Birds probably because that game was a huge hit across all kind of demographics, whereas a film like Civil War appeals especially towards comic book nerds. Which are not a few nowadays but still. But as tehrugger said I don't think it will make a billion.
As someone who works at a movie theater, I can gurantee that the bulk of Angry Birds' audience are frothing kids. I was at concessions and saw HORDES of screeching children saddled to the weariest-looking parents I've ever beheld. The mobile game attracts kids like flies to a melon, so it's no surprise the movie yanked them in by the untold thousands.
Probably appeals to kids. I don't know anything about Angry Birds really, so I'm just assuming.
And really @Deathstroke , yes money's not an indicator of a films quality, but still, why do you have to try and make this a Marvel vs DC thing?
