And yet there are people who think the prequels were great movies. See? Can't please everyone. Besides, it'd be a boring world if everyone had the same opinions.
Some people felt it used too many of the same plot points as Episode 4, which I role my eyes at, as the prequels did it a lot as well, and that's like the one thing I never hear them get crap for.
Some also think Kylo Ren was a poor villain, citing his unmasking as disappointing, I thought it was clever, Vader underneath was a broken old man, Kylo was a torn young man. I didn't hate Force Awakens, and most of the hate I've seen for it is for the most part exaggerated. I can, however, emphasize with the bulk of complaints entirely. For a Star Wars film, it came off as rather underwhelming. It relied far too much on the prospect of a sequel to answer every question it raised, and didn't have a lot of original elements.
When you consider that Disney wiped the Expanded Universe off the face of the earth to make way for new creative forces, many Star Wars fans expected them to deliver something substantial to act as its replacement. Force Awakens didn't deliver. None of the new SW comics or novels have delivered.
