  • guess we can stay after all ........... and reply to dk ..... hes getting worried
u said that we were going to have a break....... guess we both couldnt be arsed.......... anyway EVERYTHING is sorted with the luna thing .;............. God bless angel
Nope - and also people have to be willing to take their friends to task if need be, even though those friends will take it all very personally. But to be honest, we deal with the issue and then forget about it - still, I've been removed from a number of friends' lists for having to tell people off

Hmm...might try the getting rid of the dog angle but that might be too far...although it is so tempting
 I've had about 9 applications for mod status today - despite the fact that you won't get it that way and ultimately it's Steve's decision IF we decide on getting a new mod...and he's never on here so it'll be 100% objective (coz he never listens to me anyway - I'm actually talking to him right now and he's completely oblivious coz he's playing World at War. In fact, I could tell him I'm divorcing him and taking the credit card and all I'll get is "hmm...yeah").

Besides, being a mod is nothing special - if anything it requires a lot of time and effort and if someone doesn't pull their weight, they have to go back to being regular again, which nearly always ends in tears. You can't take sides, can't argue, can't be mean (well, too mean :p), can't break the rules, can't say what you really think - it's harder than people think. It's not wonderful wonderful power - it's more like damn hard work and deleting spam, dealing with every petty little thing that comes up such as "bawww! he called me gay!", and keeping things as much on topic as possible.

I hate Monday mornings for that very reason - guaranteed I will have a full inbox, twenty or more reported posts which didn't even need reporting, 60-odd spambots telling me to go dogging, PM's consisting of one sentence which when I take the time to reply I get "nvm" which winds me up something chronic and then the inevitable arguments in whichever thread happens to be flavour of the month for playground mentalities. The only board where this doesn't happen is my own forum which is dead anyway
Yup - we look at overall long-term behaviour, amongst other things, and not whether they mod on another board or care for kittens in their spare time or whatever. If, on the whole, they can't keep it locked down tight then we can't trust them with the kind of permissions and access they'd get as mods here - power tends to go straight to the head and on some of our other boards new mods tend to get both ban happy and lock happy...takes some of them AGES to stop doing it too...
And then half of them clamour for a mod position which, by default, makes you intensely unpopular
Everyone has put a lot into this place - staff and members alike - so it would be great if everyone could enjoy it regardless of status, abilities, rep and post count. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the members and vice versa so I'm really hoping recent events will be a rare thing in future...

And apparently hogging is American slang derived from the famous notion that pigs are selfish with their food...yes, I was that sad as to go and look it up
