lol, I'm sure your failed friendship won't be permanent, will it? Seems a shame to end it over a game...maybe your friend is just really into the game and doesn't realise how silly he's being?
To co-op you either have 2 games and xbox live then you'll see orbs lying around indicating friends who are playing - then you can enter their world. or you use one xbox and just join a gmae in progress.

Try and lend it off someone if you can...or save up for it...it's a great game despite it's little glitches and the odd bug here and there, which will be patched...
