Your thoughts on multiple playthroughs of a single game?

It's the curse of all these movie-wannabe games
That's because every idiot who makes those wants to 'elevate' games to the same status as film as an art form. I'm actually writing a document on this very topic. I can't find that quote but David Cage once said something to the effect that he believes games would be better if they didn't have gameplay or that he hopes games will not have gameplay in the future or something to that effect. Why not make a movie, then? If you have your sights set on making it on a computer CG movies exist, pal. It's like complaining about how soup is liquid and one day you hope to make a solid soup that you can eat with a knife and fork. Have a stake, then.

That's one of the things I dislike about Bayonetta 2. There are 2 of those, where the game has a conversation in game you can't skip. I used to think that it was a hidden loading screen but seeing how a lot of the other areas that don't have them despite their heavier visual presentation leaves me to wonder. If the Switch is more powerful than the WiiU they could've done us the courtesy of adding a skip.

If the game has an engaging gameplay, I would sometimes start over in a new save file, because I enjoy accumulating experience or upgrade points to build up my character from the ground up.
Not necessarily "new build" like you mentioned, I just like starting over from zero.

David Cage is worse than a hack. Not to mention the racism and sexism. Cage is nothing more than over inflated, egotistical douchebag, who could not make it in film/Hollywood industry. So he doubles down on actual game design out of insecurity and knows he does not have much to offer outside of different story paths. If anyone in Hollywood or the French film industry read his actual scripts, Cage would be laughed at, and no one would take him seriously. The only reason he got this far is because of snobby and insecure game critics similar to him, and his blind defenders. Even then, Cage has lost luster from both sides, but mainly his fans and casual gaming audience started realizing how much of a whack job, the f#cker actually is.

Even Platinum fell for the forced walking for "IMMERZIAN!" lie. At least there is only two and the second time is really brief. DmC (2013) had way too many; especially when in the slurm factory or rescuing Kat. Mission 12 was more so waiting for the NPC to open the doors, but it is still annoying and a complete time waster. DMC5 has the one walking section with V that only lasts about 15 seconds, Killer is Dead has an entire level where Mondo just walks and there nothing you can do to speed it up. You can only run again when facing the end boss. God of War 4 had a whole bunch of unkippable walking sections when it first launched, but a big patch update allowed the player to skip nearly all of them. I hope they don't make the same mistake for Ragnarök.

I think I've decided to replay CP77 after the expansion hits. New sex, new lifepath, will make different major choices (a good amount I regretted my mostly blind first playthrough), new romance, new ending, new build (I'll miss my stealth katana build...). I feel that's enough to make it feel like a new experience haha.

The fact CDPR said that this upcoming expansion is the only planned expansion, sort of helped the decision of rerolling vs reloading. I know what to expect in regards to content volume, so I feel content rerolling. I think being a semi-control freak also plays into my avoidance of re-doing the same stuff again. Also, cool that it's an actual Expansion, like the old days, instead of just "DLC".

Well, an expansion can be DLC too. Like Phantom Liberty. DLC merely means DownLoadable Content. Whatever the size of that content. It could be little things or an expansion. But if you download it, it's DLC.

The term has gotten negative connotations over the years but it's actually a neutral term.

I actually think games like metro get it right, as you have to play mimimum twice to get both endings.In the case of exodus you also have to do certain other things to get the good ending.

I wish most modern single player games did this to be honest.

I'm aware. I only meant I'm glad it's a full expansion pack (presuming it is, I'll trust it'll be akin to the Witcher 3's expansions) and not just a tacked on DLC questline/zone/etc like they could've done w/ the Edgerunners update - treated it as DLC, paid or otherwise. I'm well aware DLC is simply a method of obtaining content, not necessarily how content is to be measured.

And to prevent further debate w/ how I view content like Edgerunners, I'll stand by that a (forced) version update patch is NOT DLC. Semantically, sure, but in purpose, no. I also don't care what CDPR defines it as. Some devs call their own games the wrong genre, so...

I'm no sure how Metro does it, but I will say that games like RE2 and Nier, that require multiple plays to get the true ending, while those multiple plays are actually NOT like full, rerolled playthroughs, can be counted as just a single playthrough to get the true ending. ...if that makes sense.

Me replaying the Fable games for the 50+ time, exactly the same way I've always played them: "People don't replay games??"

No, but jokes aside, I find replaying games I've already completed comforting. It's like catching up with an old friend or something; I can just relax instead of having to focus on something new and having to sort through all that extra information. (And, if I'm writing fic, I kinda...have to keep replaying them to make sure the characters are acting properly and not like someone else.) I don't really care about completionism or anything else, I just wanna hang out in that world for a while.
