This is actually the worst thing you can do because essentially all you're doing is spreading the infection around the ear canal.

Considering it's summer, alcohol is a bad idea because it dehydrates you. Water is always better, (and the anesthetic lozenges are a godsend) and more than that, a visit to the doctor is best. Alcohol is not prescribed as a remedy for this.

Not necessarily. Ear infections are more often than not caused by the eustachian tube getting blocked by excess phlegm in the nose/throat area, which means the liquid behind the eardrum that would normally drain by itself, gets trapped. This liquid then gets gunky which makes a nice home for certain bacteria. This may or may not eventually lead to a perforated eardrum caused by the pressure. That's why some ear infections are dry and others are runny/gunky. Also, alcohol doesn't help relief the thickness of the phlegm, only warm drinks and gurgling with salt water can help that.

I'm just talking from experience here, though. You learn these things when you've got good doctors.
Aye, been to the doctor already - thanks to this incessant hot weather we've had, it's been unseasonable and therefore the bugs are thriving and multiplying whereas usually by now they'd be milder. Basically, my hayfever kind of mutated a bit and has resulted in me being quite unwell the last two weeks. And using qtips is precisely what will make my ear worse - doctor looked horrified when I suggested it!

This weather has really done a number on me - I'm prone to heat exhaustion so I have to be so careful. Looks like I wasn't careful enough because even with the fans and drinking in excess of 3 litres of water a day it's still battered me quite a bit.

CT: got to get Josh to school an hour earlier than usual. This will definitely kill me off...

That's because the infection is INSIDE. Not on the skin. So, just follow what he says.

Drink in moderation. Not too much. Too much water is bad for you.

3 litres in an hour, sure. Over a day in 32 degree heat is sensible. All we need is the mother of all thunderstorms and things will hopefully settle back down - we Brits only really know rain. Anything else throws us into chaos...

Having said that, I'm terrified of thunderstorms. Oh dear...

A day. Not hours. Day.

Your body needs to calm down, process things. It needs to filter out good drink, bad drink, and it's not as easy as just pushing through water, man. It needs time to filter.

Read some biology stuff, you'll see what I meant.

I seriously hope it rains soon, because everything is pretty much dying. D: I don't think I've ever seen so much yellow around here. We're supposed to get showers Friday (Ha! The last five times we've been promised rain, the clouds blew away...come back, clouds!) so hopefully if we do get them, they last all--bloody--day.

+C'mon, we can do 800 more words today, right? Right? Muse, don't fail me now!

You can take some of our rain as long as you take the humidity, too.

It'll be nice to bake something for his birthday. Kinda feel like cheating and getting pre-made pie dough, though. >_>

Bolded: me agreeing with you
Underlined: me saying over a day is better.

We're not in disagreement here.

@Shadow I'll take some rain. But you can keep the humidity or give it to someone else. I just need rain!!!

Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide.
At certain high temperatures the solid form sublimes immediately into gas form, and so it doesn't melt into liquid.
Which is exactly what I want because I need to be able to put out flames, and that's what carbon dioxide gas does.
Not that it matters to the reader, really, but it's for those curious people who will actually google this to see if it makes sense. It has to have some base of legitimacy for me.

Gods, I hate when these forms ask you to compare your book to something else. I have no idea what WoN is similar to! Yeah, it's Mythic Fantasy like Rick Riordan's books--but it's also nothing like his series. Our interpretations of the gods and their functions are very different. I'm sure as hell not going to compare it to anything like TMI or Shadowhunters, either, because reasons (I still haven't forgiven the person that implied it was like that. Yes, Gwen and Clary have so much in common...)

Guess I'll just leave that tab open and let the caffeine hit my bloodstream. Maybe then I'll figure out what else it might link up with.

Edit: Ended up comparing it to Percy Jackson, Chronicles of Narnia, and Spirited Away. Gods help me...

So like, when I opened up my delivery of model kits I found a cheap plastic fan was wedged between them.

I dunno if that was a mistake or if it's just a random gift but I'm using it because it is hot today and fanning myself feels DAMN GOOD!!!

I think the Percy Jackson series would probably be more aligned with WoN. Also probably the movies of Beowulf and Thor (with the more personable characterisation of the gods), but I get those are movies and don't count under literature. Maybe even with a little bit of Indiana Jones adventure chugged in there. It's a good thing not being able to find a specific series to compare your work to, it adds to your authenticity. But again, I get that it's also a pain in the backside.

And honestly who even compared Gwen to Clary? They're both the main female characters but that's about all they've got in common.

I actually could compare it to movies and shows. I didn't even consider Thor. :'( Really, it gave you Indiana Jones vibes? It is, really. ^^ It'll always bear similarities to other things, of course (everything does to something) but yeah; when you're asked to compare it, it's so awkward--and it makes you feel really pretentious, having to put yourself on the same level as some of these things. ^^;

And that's my thoughts, exactly! If they wanted to compare her to Clary for that one commonality, then they might as well compare her to every other YA female heroine.

CT: Had a pretty good day with kiddo. Sometimes it's the little things that really make the biggest difference.
