DmC compromises part 1: Dante

mrrandomlulz

As many supporters on this forum have said, it's a fortunate truth that DmC2 has the potential to restore the franchise back to it's former glory. As many skeptics on this forum have said, it would be nice if DmC stayed a bit more true to the original series.
But there is a fine line between 'staying true to' and 'ripping off'
So here is Mrrandomlulz's list of compromises that would benefit DmC, and how to execute said compromises

First, the new Dante.
Have his personality a darker version of DMC1 and recast Dante with a slightly older actor.

I hear it constantly that Dante is somewhat a darker version of his DMC3 counterpart. And DMC3 Dante had one particular event leading up to his DMC1 personality, it's also an event that DmC Dante went through,
Learning to accept responsibility.

Now I'll admit, I HATED Tim Phillips's nazily voice, but I know NT prefers screen actors to play their characters, so I carefully thought, what actor has both the ability to land a one-liner, and show serious emotion.
And I came to ONE CONCLUSION.

Ryan Reynolds. Say what you want about his movies, but his acting is usually the redeeming factor in the bad one he's in.
In X-men origins, he proved he could pull off any one-liner.
In Buried, he proved he can show serious emotion.

So now it's time for Dante's looks
As I've said, white Rambo hair is the way to go

It is long and flowing like original Dante's, and it LOOKS edgy and western, like he just came out of vigorous battle.
It's perfect for paying tribute to the original, while maintaining the feeling of the reboot.
Also, for reason's I'll later reveal, I was thinking a five o'clock shadow, similar to Indy.
indiana_jones_temple_of_doom.jpg

I remember how DMC4 Dante had this, despite it being much more fitting of DMC1 and DMC2 Dante. DMC4 just seemed too damn silly for one, but an older version of DmC Dante I could REALLY see having one.

For the jacket. I was thinking a dark shade of Maroon (As opposed to the bright crimson Original Dante wore) , make it a hoodie like DmC, but have a black t-shirt under it, no leather, but make it red (as said above, a dark maroon is the way to go).
Replace the flashy fashionista boots with military combat boots.

(Note: Dragonmaster2010 pointed out that Dante really shouldn't be wearing long red expensive jackets, and for the most part, I agree. So what if instead of the jacket being something Dante bought. It was actually originally bought for him to grow in to by Eva. And Dante wears it in memento)
Have Dante have gone into hiding in between the events of the two games.

I know what your thinking "Why?"

Well first, because this allows for TONS of potential of a sequel story-wise.

(For me) DmC's ending was both awesome and disappointing. Aside from Vergil, DmC ended on a note that merely required an epilogue text to give closure to the whole damn story.
Mundus was defeated, the demons were revealed, and Dante would become an international hero.
While I did think this would be a GREAT ending if it were a single game instead of a franchise, the idea of Dante leading a whole army of humans to flush out the remaining demons didn't seem satisfying.
So what if instead, Dante revealing the demons to mankind backfired, and he went into hiding?

He CAN curse, when it BENEFITS the one-liner or is a moment where he is desperately losing.

The one thing I have to admit about DmC Dante, is that aside from the poison scene, he WAS an alternate version of DMC3 Dante. A version who never saw the problem in cursing and killing humans, and while he could be annoying at times due to drastic differences. For the most part, he pulled it off. The cursing was great when it was of benefit to the one liner, a liberty that was never taken in the originals.
His one liners were on-par with that of DMC3, although, DMC3 came off as more likable to me for reasons unknown. (My guess is nostalgia and being too damn stubborn to watch original Dante fade)

He WILL remain nephillim instead of cambion

Another liberty that I hated when it was announced that I actually find myself currently enjoying is that DmC Dante would be a nephillim.

Now that I look back on it though, it is a neat twist on the character, and adds a layer of uniqueness. I mean, let's face it guys. Blade, Inuyasha, AND our beloved Dante, are all part human so that we have an excuse for them to be on our side, with DmC Dante, the reason he is on our side is actually pretty well explained.
Rebellion will be a shorter, nephillim version of it's original counterpart.

I have to admit, I HATED the DmC Rebellion, because unlike DmC Dante and DMC3 Dante, I could actually see resemblance, with DmC Rebellion and DMC Rebellion, I couldn't.
But then Final Offer brought up this concept art that really had shown me Rebellion DOES need to go through some changes, but CAN still resemble the original.
012.jpg

I compared this concept art to DMC4 Rebellion
Rebellion_%28awakened%29_DMC3.gif

There is little resemblance, but that is all about to change when you realize what the guard on the original Rebellion resembles. It is supposed to be one side demon, one side human.

So that concept art of DmC Rebellion would be perfect if the left side was demon, and the right side was angel.
As for the size of Rebellion, make it the same size it was in DmC.
I should also mention, find a way to add the skull handle back, the skull handle was ****ing awesome

Basically you want old Dante in a DmC sequel.

if I could chose I'd rather it be this;

Considering this is still a rebooted version of DMC, it should stay as a rebooted version of DMC. So for Dante in this version, he still has to retain a modern look. Just because he got white hair doesn't mean you should start throwing the leather tights and gothic long coats on him. Remember he's still homeless, still not getting enough money for clothes like that, and is still broke. For him to suddenly have expensive looking leather coats wouldn't make much sense.

So I'd say for attire, it should be something akin to John Constantine from Hellblazer.
John_Constantine_0014.jpg

It's not like the classic Dante's attire because of its more modern look, but it certainly has its own form of style to offer the new Dante's darker humor. Plus, it seems like a good next step from the raggity black hooded coat.

For hair, I'm actually thinking it should be cut. Something like how Tim got it in the secret circle.

It's not to over the top, and seems like it would fit Dante now that he's done some growing.

And yes, I still want Tim Phillipps as Dante.

1000% this.

Tim was just an unemotional husk of an actor for about 85% of the game, greatest proof was when Phineas told Dante of Mundus's child....

Nothing! Not even a twitch in his face.

i think a hair style like solid snake would suit better with a blood red trench coat with a hood and black lining in it and a top like he has in dmc4 under it but without the straps and buckles with a,high collar that zips up the zip open at the top and the collar up and a black combat pants and combat boots and a gun belt with holsters around th back for his handguns and shotgun so that you can see em when the coat is swept up black gloves too and as for a voice actor i would use the actor who plays captain america as he is kinda cocky and danteesque

Let's rock, baby!
Dante should find some job to get enough money for food, clothing & shelter.

He'll have his new look in five or ten years and he'll buy his old home and probably redecorate into something like the old "Order". Build the devil may cry organization for demon hunting mercenaries like himself.

Redesign the jacket into something better and red. And put some underwear on.

I think that people forget that DmC was originally an origin story and the goal was for you to learn how Dante became Dante.

PS: I think that is a bs prospect.

I would like for the new DmC Dante to be a mix of his newer more modern look and his classic look.

So far he has the white hair and new found attitude towards protecting humans, something he shares with the original Dante.

But still has the angsty attitude and modern urban look as well as a different world setting than the original Dante.

Maybe have him come back with his hair a bit longer and a newly designed red coat that is more modern rather than gothic.

So I'm all for finding a compromise here, and I'm willing to bet given the reaction DmC received that Capcom may be thinking of finding a compromise as well should they decide to make another DmC, something to please both new and old fans.

That is literally the eyes of someone who's been told something both interesting, and also a bit shocking.

Still seems unemotional to me, the only one that showed any emotion from that bit of news was Vergil. He was surprised and shocked maybe disgusted you can see it in his face. When Dante presented it to Vergil he was just like" eh, Lilith has a child news is uninteresting."

Didn't Kat get shot and dragged off a few hours before that scene? Lilith having a child is old news compared to the recent shock he had to witness.

If I had a nickel for every "Dante needs to be this" thread.

At least now I know alot of you who were once against DmC now believe in DmC.

So, who am I to complain?

If you want DmC Dante to be like the original, please refer to this guy

WOW you missed the point of this thread. It wasn't "How would you like Dante to be in DmC2.", it was "How could Dante be more like the original, while still maintaining his newer, edgier feel"

Sorry, misread.

Better yet, out of all the hairstlyes you chose...why Rambo?
