the Order's leader has finally been revealed (apparently he is a fan of V for Vendetta). we now know what DmC Mundus looks like and we got to see more of Dante being cool.
so far it looks like Ninja Theory has done a good job of combining Mundus' arrogance and belief in his own divinity with a more modern setting. (of course we've only heard him say two sentences but they were both very good lines.)

the scariest part of mundus is how normal he looks. he looks like youre average politician/ceo. so he seems even more threatening because of it.

Well, Tameem DID say you're more likely to be less trustworthy of people around you after you play this game, you know. XD; The fact that people around us who seem completely normal but may have ulterior motives forms a vital part of DmC's story-line, I guess. And Tameem thinks we're probably gonna be affected on a psychological level by this game. The last game which affected me psychologically was Silent Hill. Let's see what kind of story NT can tell. =)

Just saw the trailer. I am really not sure I like where this is going.

The idea of everything evil being hidden away within the 'real world' is intriguing, but I don't want to see it in Devil May Cry, not like this. DMC is more gothic horror than Goodfellas to me. Mundus as a creepy gangster-type just doesn't do it for me, nor Dante being quite as punky and offensive as he is here.

The story may turn out to be excellent, perhaps... but I am not liking the modern setting. They should have made a new IP with demons living in the modern world, with some new protagonist, if this is how it's to be done - because Devil May Cry was never about that; it was about leaving the modern world to go to creepy, ancient, arcane environments and fight outlandish (but still rather tradition-folkloric-inspired) demons. It was not about nightclubs and surveillance and the current social elite all being demonic vampires on the hapless population. The 'ordinary' world was a minimal part of the other Devil May Crys... and that was how I liked it.

Also if the tone is going to be lowered even more to make it more 'gritty' and current... meh. Isn't there enough of that out there already? DMC was cheesy before, but that's part of the appeal. If it wanted, the former titles could have been even more grim/grotesque, but that has to be balanced somehow because the subject matter is so dark. Now it'll just be even darker.

i see youre point but im afraid im gonna have to disagree. i dont see a real goodfellas/godfather/mafia thing behind it tbh. it may just be me but i like the idea of mundus looking like any given politician or CEO. it makes him realistic but we know that beneath his appearance is literally the god of hell. it makes it more imposing as he can walk casually in public and at any point kill everyone around him in an instant. also you get the idea hes been into politics for a VERY VERY long time. so hes like a puppet master of humanity controlling us all from the shadows. we dont know if when were fighting him were actually fighting him or just playing into another of his traps. in all fairness we do TECHNICALLY go into an outlandish, arcane and anceint land when dante is sent to limbo. and have you SEEN "traditional demons" those arent anything like in ANY of the DMC games. the nightclubs and surveilance gives it a modern touch. we know it takes place in our world in our time. not in unkown universe B were the rules and the soceity we live in changes game to game. i do agree and i got a blade feel from it. but that makes it even cooler. you never know whos a demon it could be Kat, or someone....like me:devil:......
but its youre opinion in the end and i respect youre right to keep it. but i hope ive at least help ease your mind a lil bit

The only thing that I don't like about this game is the release date, 'cause I'm gonna be in army when it comes :( Just few weeks too late for me x( and I only get every second weekend free...

Very nice! I love the facial animations, The Badassness of Dante clearly shows, and the masked man is also a kicker.
Althought the first thing the Masked Man reminded me of was V for Vendetta, something else came to mind.

Somehow I was reminded of this....

My mind is pretty eased because I've always got the older games.

I mean Mundus' attitude reminded me of a Goodfellas character. Not that the demons themselves would be a Mafia racket.

The original demons in the previous games are frequently derived in some capacity from theology, mythology and demonology - not always directly/visually, but the references are everywhere, including many of the names; the developers changed them to make them more interesting and fresh no doubt, so you're not just hacking at little imps with pointy tails and horns all the time. Beelzebub = flies, the "Lord of the Flies"; Sin scythes with cow or goat skulls for masks; Echidna, as you would imagine, a mother-monster of Greek mythology, though represented as a cross between human/dragon/plant; Cerberus, right out of Greek mythology; the sins/vanguard looking like grim reapers; horned goat-beasts; sargasso: skulls; demonic 'cherubim'; Freki and Geri ripped from Norse mythology; Golem (tenuous, probably name only, but implied Jewish folklore); the Abysses look like your archetypal demon; Leviathan = Bible; Doppelganger, Germanic folklore and an evil double of oneself; Beowulf is clearly visually based on the Babylonian demon Pazuzu... oh, you bet they dipped into all that even if some of the demons look fairly bizarre and outlandish.

Mundus, also much like a depiction of Zeus, crossed with an angel. Irony I assume, depicting himself as angelic rather than the typical 'Satan' figure, though even that borrowed heavily from elsewhere. Only his final form is significantly weird enough to be quite original.

yh but i like the new demons you can see some references to stuff such as those fat winged babies that fire arrows are obviously based on qupid . and in fairness we dont know what other demons will be in the game. as for mundus weve only seen his human form. it isnt fair to judge yet. he most likely will transform much like how the statue changed in DMC1

I hope they go a different route with Mundus's transformation. Maybe him becoming not a giant statue, but him being transformed like Arius from DMC2, or him entering a DT like state with large weapons.

Let's not look in the past. This is a new thing, and I say Mundus should be in a godly DT-Like state.

id prefer if the final fight is more akin to when you fight vergil or dante in DMC 3 &4. those fights were hard. cuz you were fighting someone on even grounds if not stronger than you. they fought like you so it wasnt a matter of whose got the best move or how quickly can you dodge this beam then attack my weak point. it was a matter of sheer skill
