New Gameplay - The Escape

The topic is totally passed, but you guys don't object to a 17 year old me playing the game, will ya? (I'm 16 now, but will be 17 when it comes out)

the ESRB's M rating means 17+ so there is no reason why you wouldn't reasonably be allowed to play

the ESRB has an 18+ rating (Ao) but is is very rarely used (it's just for porn games and games with extremely high levels of violence) none of the consoles have any Ao rated games and most stores do not sell them

I think the developers made a good job of creating the world and giving it it's own character here.

The guy playing through this "demo" obviously has played it before, so without even trying he could of beat it. What i usually do in new games that i play, is i walk, and if it was me walking down the street and everything started changing and twisting, i honestly would not have any idea what to do. Besides running straight. The difficulty is from your first play through because there is no way to know what to expect.
Although its all scripted thats not saying the entire game could be booby trapped.
My favorite part was when the stairs flattened out and Dante just fell. Dissapearing floors may not be something new, but its very unexpected and will make you more cautious about where you walk.
The "text" isn't a big deal, especially since they've been showing text on most of the trailers, its nice to see it in the gameplay.
If this chase scene takes place in the beginning of the game then i'm all for this game. Its reminds me of uncharted 2 with all the chaos happening, depending on where Dante is.
And past dmc games had little platforming, except dmc2, and it was rather boring, especially in dmc4, when you had to walk the same paths like 3 times with no platforming. All there was, was an upgrade to run through the levels faster.
I'd rather have something to do from fight to fight. And if it's going to be a scripted chase scene where the city is trying to kill me, then bring it on.

This city isn't very with the words, eh? If indeed that is the city talking while the words apear all over.

judging by these words we know that this city is American (note i am american myself so know need to call me a "stupid (insert foreign country here)")

Well since we're playing vicariously through Dante, its really what he's reading because actually we can't read anything, so Dante just interprets Demon writing in English:D

What do people like about this gameplay footage, besides the graphics? Do you believe there is any skill in what we have been seen? The guy holds up on the left analog to run through it, a couple of jumps, hookshot at the end through the church, and that's it. Why is this impressive?

well chrysander to me the reason this footage was impressive because, like you said it looks great! but even though the platforming looks pretty simple in this video, in my mind it opens up alot of potential. it seems like capcom/nt have worked hard on the platforming and making the city a major part of the game, no longer is it just a background, but it is a part of the gameplay and story, and i really like that idea. even if this platforming is simple, it is such a unique idea, and i do believe that the platforming will definitely upgrade as we see more of it.

My only problem with the music is that i would like more music that is in-house produced than just buying other songs.

yeah i like custom made music as well, which is why i like the escape music alot, its very fitting :)

How is the story progressed, I don't understand what you mean. What I saw was buildings moving, I can't tell you anything about the narrative from that, just looks like a gimmick, or something cool to look at at best.

It's just cinematic, an interactive cut scene in which you just hold up on the left analog and press jump a couple of times. Watch it again and imagine you are actually playing it, what's your interaction? Barely anything.

When I say that this is not what DMC is about, I mean that it's a combat game ultimately, so you'd think that's what would get people pumped, not this. I can understand that it looks nice to see the buildings pop out like that. But, it doesn't make the gameplay any better

Well, don't get too excited there, it's a scripted event, that's for sure, nothing to get too excited about (though it does look nice).

since this probably takes place early in the game it is probably intentionally not very complicated. Ninja Theory can't reasonably expect players to be able to manage really complex platforming sequences without practice. the ones later in the game will probably be more complicated.

Well i'll compare this to Uncharted 2 when you first start. All your doing is climbing up a train. But what it's intentions were, to me, to put you directly in the middle of nowhere and having no clue what to do besides climb a train thats been apparently derailed for whatever reason. And its the most simple of gameplay. But it draws you in completely, to me.
I understand that combat is the key to dmc games, its the glue that holds everything together. And in past games capcom has relied on it and took little to no effort on creating any type of platforming. And honestly it was never necessary. But why not have something to do, like escape a city while all the walls are trying to crush you, other than just walking.
I'm guessing in the very beginning of the demo, if Dante would of just stood their, the walls would have crushed him because you can see the cars being smashed together. So its not like you can just mess around while your in there because you will die. At least thats what it looks like to me.

Also!! i seen you can use the whip in angelic forms and demonic forms, anyone else notice that?
