Where's the taunt button on new DMC?

Pulentyno

Brazilian DMC, MGS and Unreal player.
Hey guys.

So, playing the new DMC demo I was curious about something... Where's the taunt button? I find the button and don't see in any gameplay video. I search if I find anything that makes sure that will be taunting on the new DMC, without success.

When I play Devil May Cry (3) the first time, I was a horrible player. It was very difficult for me beat cerberus. But, the time passed and my skills became better. When I was kicking Beowolf ass in DMD mode and using taunt on it, I discovered the "magic" behind Devil May Cry franchise. When you play it in the first time (specially if was your first hack and slash game, my case) it was paintfull to pass a boss. After hours os training, you can display a awsome combat, with you destroying and taunting a giant demon.

So, this epic franchise require your skills to make the combat epic, not some animated cutscene that you only need tho do "quick time events" to humiliated the boss (that everyone, from the professional to the noob, will do i the same way).

Talking about humiliating the boss one of the must fun thinks to do in Devil May Cry in using taunt on the boss. I specially like the DMC4 Nero taunts. You play air guitar for a infinite time, make a cowboy quickdraw of your pistol saying "bang", raise your hands in the air calling the enemy, MAN THAT WAS SO EPIC!

The taunt button makes the combat even more epic, and makes you look a real badass motherfucker. So the taunt button is a simple think that don't need to alterate anything big in the game. You can use "select" to performe it (the itens may be go to start menu) and making the game more awsome "on screen". And taunt is on the "DNA" of Dante. We can request the taunt option in the final version, or later on a (free) DLC.

If Ninja Theroy adds the taunt button in the final version, what whould you think about it?

There is no taunts. Dante speaks for himself according to what's happening.
You have a lift, pull and guns. There is virtually no need for taunts as you already have enough to keep your style rating.

There aren't any plans for a taunt button that I've heard of.

With the Poison boss, Dante automatically taunts her during the fight, along with taunting other enemies as he fights them.

With the classic DMC games, I don't remember the taunts being unique to each situation and each enemy, whereas in DmC, the taunts are individual, at least as far as bosses are concerned.

I'd hate it if Dante was shouting generic taunts like DMC during the epic battle with Vergil. It would spoil the atmosphere.
At least with DmC having the taunts pre-scripted into the game, they're unique to the bosses being fought.
For me, it's okay that taunts aren't assigned to a button so long as Dante has taunts scriped into the fight.

i still think that was a stupid idea to not include taunts. ITS A GAME! its hardly gonna ruin my experience is i just want to talk some **** during combat. Juggling enemies with your guns, switching weapons and taunts were the only reasons why i kept played dmc after dmc2. I still find myself standing around, creating the most awkward of moments in the demo.

"taunts don't fit DmC"
Thats what they said when someone asked them about not having taunts in DmC.

Taunts as a mechanic aren't even necessary in this game. There's more than enough that can be done without needing a button that essentially just hands you Style for pushing it. I actually asked if the Style meter's behavior is the way it is because they removed Taunting, to which they said it was, among another reason.

Woulda been nice with the scripted, context-driven dialogue he already has in-game, but really not all that necessary.

If it was up to me, I wouldn't just put a "Taunt" button but various other interactions, like "intimidate", "praise" and maybe even "grovel".

Using "praise" on a code-obeying knight enemy will make it less likely to fight dirty, while using "grovel" on a group of enemies will decrease your style but make them less aggressive (think God Hand).

If used at the right time, "intimidate" will scare and freeze the enemy with fear (like performing it while it's very vulnerable or low in health).

It'd be fun to see how different interactions affect different enemies and bosses.

That system would be interesting to see, but none of that is really Dante's style though. He's an aggressive street brawler. He has no code of conduct, especially for respecting the people who made his life a living hell for over a decade, and he's not one to grovel either.

How you think people would handle the already blasphemous DmC Dante groveling to demons, instead of shoving their heads up their asses so they can wear their pants like a hat?

Now there's a BA taunt!

I wouldn't even care if the Taunts didn't effect the style meter. I always thought it was a nice little break in combat.

Also it would be cool if whatever stance you were in, plus weapon you had selected would preform a different taunt, kinda like Bayonetta but implemented with all the weapons. And like Goldsickle said, make the taunts have some sort of effect to the enemy. Maybe just to the extent of putting the enemy you taunt into their DT state or something along the lines..... like Bayonetta.

Dante's taunt mechanic showed true BADASSERY. If'm not sure if the down directional button is being used in the final game, but if not NT could've used it as a taunt button. You can hold angel stance for for like a chilled taunt, like he lays down in the middle of a fight. Demon stance, Dante is more aggressice and says things like "**** you", or "Ebony and Ivory wants to have a three way with you, but I don't think you'd want them to cum." Vulgar things. neutral stance is just normal taunts, with all sarcastic quotes.

Taunting was always useless to me. I never used it because he just repeated and did the same gesture over and over again and it felt so cheap and used-up that I couldn't keep using it. I was tired of seeing him do the same thing.

Also, that reminds me I recall some image back in the day when DmC was first announced. "Remember when Dante was all about parties and gettin' crazy? obviously no one at capcom does" when DmC Dante does alot more partying and getting crazy than the old Dante did. Amusing when you look back at all of those comments and how wrong they are now huh?

but yeah, taunting just seemed like something you used when your style points were going down and it wasn't really necessary beyond that.

DMC4 did make taunting a little better, but I do like that it's not necessary in this game. He says things according to the event and that's cool.

no taunt! BLASPHEMY TO THE SACRED RELIGION OF DANTE BURN AND CRUCIFIE ALL THE BLASPHEMOUS WHO ARE AGAINST TAUNTS MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Taunts in cutscenes breaks the experience, because it's the "PC" that make the comand and you don't have the felling of YOU DOING it.

i dont care about the cutscenes for all i care the story could involve ponys and fairies and i still would get it why? because the gameplay in my opinion is enjoyable and very cool

Sorry, I don't quote the user I want to respond.

I totally agree with you, but putting a cutscene with a taunt in the middle of the combat breaks the experience. in general, Cutscenes in the middle of the combat breaks the rhythm. So, put the taunt button in select. =)

I just got an idea for taunts;

Bloody Palace

In Bloody Palace it's all about killin' demons and bosses right? Well those fights aren't story related. Just a small survival style game level. So if it's just fighting demons for fun, they can just put the taunt button there so that it doesn't disrupt anything in the story.
