I think as soon as you have opted out of the Windows 10 upgrade that should be it. They shouldn't persist in messages for it, however as it's going to be free upgrade for 1 year only its in customers who do want to moves best interest to do so. However it should never have installed onto a system without the users permission, that was stupid idea and they should be punished for that.

So they are covering their bases for those who don't move in that year and then complain when it's a charged upgrade. I've said it before but I'm enjoying Windows 10 and upgraded as soon as it was offered to me.

Also in the interests of compatibility its in Microsoft's best interests to try and get as big of a percentage of its gamers to move to a particular operating system. Would stop many of the issues of certain glitches and errors between systems because of the operating system limitations.

As someone who was a fan of Lionhead and who has spoken to staff over all these years after running Fable Forums for 10 years I was disappointed with their closure but not overly surprised (thought it might come AFTER Legends released however).

If they had actually made a true sequel to Fable III instead of multiple spin off titles that strayed further and further from Fable formula they might not have closed. Afterall gaming is a business and their stocks were going down and down, shame Legends will never see light of day after getting close to open Beta stage but Microsoft clearly didn't have much confidence in it so pulled the plug. Lionhead should have been told or at least informed that a decision was close to being made though. They still had their GDC schedule intact as they had no idea plug was about to be pulled.

As for the apology over GDC after party, they had complaints (not only from feminists) and some people were outraged (apparently) & media picked up on that and there were lots of negative press about it. Lots weren't bothered and couldn't see the big deal but Phil simply had no choice but to acknowledge the situation and apologise for those who didn't think it was appropriate for a gaming show. Though it's hardly the 1st time dancers of this kind were used at a gaming show but it's Microsoft so people will always find way to kick up a fuss...

For forcing W10 downloads well im not happy as most suprising is that on lappy i once used and had there AV just for emergency scans when i suspected viral infection ( since i most do gaming so its not heavilly needed beacuse AVs make mine games run like crap wit their consant scans) and well it captured most of these telemetry updates as virus (it spamed it is trojan type ones) so IDK but now im not trusting MS since that and been froced to shutdown windows updates beacuse of this forced crap. Thats where Microsoft just lost trust in me for now.

I always turn off automatic updates (for everything) as I like to know what the updates im installing are doing and ones that I don't need for programs I don't use I skip (don't want them taking up space on my machine). Was certainly wrong of them to install it when users didn't want it as in some cases the HD wasn't large enough for the install and it took up precious space.

My co-worker was one of the people who one day had windows 10 downloaded without permission on her laptop. Surprised and not very observant as she was, she ended up losing all the documents, including some dear photos. I don't know if the tech guys managed to salvage some of it, but it shows how these things can cause trouble for an average user.

Which is strange as I had countless photos and music on my PC and lost nothing in the upgrade. It even says on installation that all your files will be where you left them (and in my case they were). I do know of some cases where files were lost here and there for some users though for whatever reason.

Perhaps she was just the really unlucky one. Maybe things got deleted to make room for installation, and she didn't pay enough attention to stop it, as she continuously claimed to us there was no message or anything regarding her files.

This is the message I saw mid way through installation.

Though some apps/programs would get removed if they weren't compatible with Windows 10. Most companies had updated their programs within a few days of it being released however.

Though I did find this amusing and quite true...

I'm just going by her words, would have had to see her laptop after it happened to know for sure, but the scenario I can imagine is that it removed the programs, as you said, and she interpreted that as her files being gone (as she could no longer open them).
Though that leaves the mystery why the tech guys didn't tell her that.
