What is a mod?

Okay, the honour of making the first thread in this new section is mine. :lol:

It is a stupid question for some people, but what is a mod? Is it short for modifying or something in PC games?

Basic description:

Mods

Refers to modding games files to be able to do things (gain things) in a game that you previously couldnt.
