What if DmC wasn't DMC.

I mean if the game released with a different title and character names.

do you think this would made this game more famous?
or you think DmC used devil may cry title as advertise?
I already wrote something something similar to this: here's a short preview.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Name of the new "series"... Demons Will Clash.

It's not a reboot, it's a new IP with the same elements; people kept saying that it should be a new series, so that's what I did.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, let me be clear on my own personal "Angel" definitions (revised):

demon + human = cambion

angel + human = nephilim

angel + demon = camephilim

angel + demon + human (in my entry, I got the math wrong for my fanfic Nero/Caligula, it was two quarters human, one quarter angel, and one quarter demon) = camephilimbion

Sorry, if I'm complicating things, but that's just the way it has to be.

Demons Will Clash

------------------------------------------------

Alright, here we go:

[Both my "original universe" (it's DWC, but it has new names in place of the original characters' -- I've decided that it's probably best this way) and my "making sense of the timeline; I've decided not to "officially merge" the two DMC franchises because I like DmC just the way it is -- haters be damned.]

[The official term is "Nephilion" or "Cambionihm" but I think those two definitions sound beyond stupid and therefore, I decided to give my own spin on this whole thing.]

Menander [Sparda] [demon]

Ovid [Vergil] [Cambioneph: half-angel, half-demon]

Terence [Dante] [Cambion: half human, half demon]

Caligula [Nero -- because why not? :D]

''Do you think this would made this game more famous?''

No, I don't see why. Ninja Theory is quite well-known, and their games are generally considered to be AAA titles.

''Would it be more popular'' is a better question. If it had nothing to do with Devil May Cry, but just tried to compete with it, it would've at least not gotten as much negative attention. If it wasn't related to Devil May Cry, Ninja Theory also wouldn't have made such (indirect) inflammatory statements towards DMC fans. There would be no ''our Dante is cooler than yours. Here's some slides to prove it''. I know they never directly said that, but they heavily implied it... and that made them look really arrogant as well as ignorant. It's fine if that was just their opinion, but it's a really bad idea to deprecate the original when you're a developer trying to reboot it. It's not their job to publicize their (possibly inflammatory) opinion. I think that a reboot like DmC was doomed from the get-go, especially so since Capcom never ended the old DMC. I also didn't see it as a Devil May Cry game... it was missing a lot of ingredients, so to speak.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, just to be clear. It's pretty decent.

I think the problem people had with the TGs10 trailer was they couldn't reconcile him with the Dante of old so I think if you pulled a Phantom Pain and debuted the game under a new name etc people wouldn't have made the connection unless you told them.

I think the controversy is what made DmC and NT famous so without it they might not be. But I think people would have had interest in the project so it would have been regarded like the Order 1886.

I could see Capcom or NT saying that this game was inspired and grew out of ideas they might have had for DMC but they decided to just cut the cord and make a new IP. People might have accused it off being a ripoff but people tend use that word for everything so most probably wouldnt care.

It'd still be the same in terms of popularity. I'd personally liked it if they called it something that was a reference to DMC but not actually call it DMC.

Like "Dante Must Die"... Or not.

It would've still gotten hate regardless. The second fans hear that capcom was helping NT make an action game with demons, fans would automatically assume that Capcom would be done with DMC and do this new IP and argue that "DANTE IS BETER DAN THES GAI!! FAK HEM!!" and the hate train would continue.

Well if DMC5 was being made while this "new IP" was made, then that would remove some of the hate.

It takes a lot to focus on one game. And besides that, a real DMC5 would probably take a lot more money to make than a new game in general rather than just DMC5. Starting over from scratch would be cheaper for them. Give them more creative control too to try and take things differently. Although I personally didn't like Dante's behavior in this one as it was even cockier than DMC3's Dante, but not in a wild and fun way. More like a "I WANNA CUT MYSELF SO DON'T JUDGE ME" kind of cockiness. Like the kid who think just because he's better (Assumed by the kid) than his parent's that they'll never understand him.

How did you get to that assumption of nDante's character?
Well for one he actually has cuts on his body that IIRC he induced himself. He cut himself open to see if he had a human heart. And all he does is hate the government just because they try to tell him how to live.

I can understand wanting to fight demons. But they also had to give him that backstory of being raped by a demon. They just couldn't leave the damaged psyche alone. They just couldn't keep him as a fun loving guy who fights demons just because. Well, I know it's more than that, but that would be a big reason.

Wait...WHAT? What game are YOU playing?

First off; at the beginning, Dante didn't cut himself, those were from the women he had sex with the night before. Sometimes when you're having sex, women will scratch your back from how hard you're doing it. Second, he opened his chest to test whether or not he would be dead since he should've died after getting stabbed in the heart in a street fight. Opening a wound hurts like hell. Trust me. Third, He didn't fight the government, he fought demons who haunted him and never gave him a break. He didn't start fighting an actual tyrannical government until Vergil asked him to.

Dante was never raped by demons. He was held in different prisons and an orphanage that abused and tortured him on a daily basis. If you want to use rape, Kat was abused by her demon step-father and even then she didn't say rape, but "attacked" and that could mean many things.
