Umm, watching anything with subtitles without missing any action is quite easy, it just requires some practice. Been doing it since I could read, since only stuff for little kids gets dubbed here. :p

As someone who has experience with subbed anime, English dubbed anime and German dubbed anime, I can tell you the English one is the ****tiest, though there has been significant improvement over the past years. Most of the time the biggest problem is that they sound like they are in a commercial, but that can be fixed with better trained actors. I know Devil May Cry certainly had a really good dub, even though Reuben sometimes sounded like he is short of breath in his attempts to sound dramatic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not on the side of those anti-dub folks, once upon a time those claims were somewhat valid, but it has since then grown into a monstrosity called elitism.

Just my two cents. ;)

Seriously, I don't mind reading subs if I have to, but I'd prefer a dub. I've seen dubs that have even improved upon the original. Recently I watched Future Diary and I'm so glad that has a dub because Yuno's voice in Japanese is so damn high pitched and grating.

Plus, Goku's voice in Japanese does sound ridiculous.

Oh, I can, too. There are certain anime I prefer in English, and others I'm okay with reading subs for. I just get tired of the attitude most of them have that, by default, English dubbing sucks. Meanwhile, it's not true; yeah, there have been some **** English dubs, but there have also been anime that are ****, no matter what language you watch them in.

@Viper I find it varies from one anime to another. Even if there are a lot of horribly done English dubbed ones, people shouldn't assume they're all bad. But I do see what you mean--at least when it comes to some of the older dubs (not all, since we have seen some pretty good ones). Translations got majorly screwed up with (or maybe they did this deliberately) with character names in shows like Cardcaptors and Sailor Moon.

Oh gods, I just reminded myself of the fact that Zoisite is actually a guy. xD I didn't learn that until adulthood (and same with Sailor Moon's actual name, Usagi).

I mostly stick to older anime since I got catching up to do, rarely venture into new one, unless we talking mystery and horror.
Demon Lord Dante... I nearly burst into laughter when I tried with dubbed version at first. Death Parade, as newer anime, was much better, you could notice it was done with care, though they still kinda didn't have that natural feeling in their performance. So yeah, it got better, I think mostly cause its more noticed these days.

I think some of the stuff got screwed up not just through poorly done translation, but also localization (and censorship). Zoisite was a guy, and Neptun and Uranus went from heavily hinted lesbians to cousins. In Detective Conan they changed the names of entire cast, so now all these Japanese folks that quite obviously live in Japan have English names.

Whatever your heart desires. The sky's the limit, right? What happened with CoD:B&W, if it's okay to ask?
Mum happened.
Apparently, it's a total no-no to write a spiritual fantasy about beings from an alternate dimension asking angels to help them out with stuff every now and then. Them 'praying' to angels will put me in a bad light as a Christian, despite this being a first draft and just getting the story onto paper so I know what to do with it. Y'know, never mind that I'm barely halfway into the story and had plans to actually bring God into the mix at some point later on. "Too Supernatural", mum said. Normally I'd find that a compliment as I loved Supernatural, but mum meant it in a condescending way "that's why I stopped watching it". Y'know, nevermind that mum watched another whole season longer than I did when they started bringing God into the equation.

Basically, mum said she's not going to pass the manuscript on to my aunt (who has been pestering me to read the updated version) because she's worried about what my aunt will think. Not of me, of my mum, because everything is always about mum and her reputation. She also said "I don't even know what your other aunt and cousin will think of this". In short: she doesn't want to be the butt of gossip in the family unless it's laced with envy and/or praise.

For the record, my aunt and cousin who have read my current work are also my godmother and godsister, and I highly doubt even they'll judge me as harshly as my own mum did. They're more likely to ask me where the rest of the manuscript is. But bah. Whatever. I'm officially abandoning it now because the only reason I was writing it was because mum and the family were always asking me when I'm going to finish writing it. Now when the family asks where it is or why I gave up on it, I can point my finger at mum and say 'ask that lady'.

It just means I'm never sharing my new series with my mum. Ever. You know the one with the demon hunters and Mix with his potty mouth (lulz). If mum thinks the Chronicles are bad, she'll be mind blown with this one, since it's NOT a fantasy. But yeah. She can stuff it, I'm not sharing any of my work with her again.

Pancakes. Or turtles. Write about either one. Or both.
I want to go make turtle pancakes now =)

Decided to have a little fun with my latest video project.

@Dante's Stalker I'm a sad panda, now. :( I thought it had real promise; I'm sorry to hear she's been so unsupportive of it. Definitely play it close to the vest with your other one, then. Please! We can't afford to lose another one of your stories--they're so good. :'(
:( I will. I'm now filtering everything I tell mum so if she asks about my writing, I'll just mumble something random like 'orange pudding pie' (which will confuse her because we only speak in my native tongue to each other and she won't expect to hear English from me) and then change the subject. It's a bit of a loss and I'm a bit sour about it because I've been working on Chronicles since I graduated high school.... so that's like a good 12 years ago. IF I ever get over her opinion about my work and pick it up again, I'll try everything to prevent her from finding out about it.

@EA9Sol thanks :thumbsup:

I sometimes get criticized for my writing, but I never cared what they think. If my subject matter is too dark, graphic, or raunchy for you, that's you. I'll still write my black comedies about serial killing and body clean up thank you very much.

I always wrote the stories I wanted to write for the people who wanted to read them. I can have a very wild overactive imagination that can also get pretty bizarre. But I wanna do the stuff I wanna do.

Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
The first time my mom saw my writing, she thought it was very unchristian, but I told her it's a lot more religious then first read. She still didn't like it because demons were involved in it. One of the reasons I never told her of my liking for Constantine. With Supernatural, at least my favorite chaacter there is an angel.

I'm still gonna write my story though.

Well it happened again. I don't know what to do anymore. I think she's gone for good this time. I'm supposed to be the nice funny guy. But how can I keep that up when people keep doing this?
