Vergil's Bloody Palace MOD

Don't blame anyone. I made my own off-topic post and I take responsibility for not stopping myself.

Nah, who cares.

Interested to see the progress. I suppose that means Vergil's BP won't have as many floors, huh? Since it'll have to skip over boss stages? I'd still say as far as it goes, wouldn't fighting them pretty much be the same? Sure it'd be awkward during a few of the cutscenes when stuff happens to them, but it's a small price to pay to be able to fight them as Vergil anyway, right?

The problem being that I believe someone already tried swapping Dante with Vergil and running boss fights and apparently the game crashes.

Making this mod perfect is impossible, I think. For numerous reasons, of course. In the current mod, only the characters are swapped and their moves but bosses, stages, enemies etc aren't. The game gets hella confused and it's actually funny when you're playing because it chooses enemies almost at random and they seem a bit "dumbed down".

exactly, the entire bloody palace mode was made for dante as in things like poison and the hunter fight and especially mundus are made entirely for him and for him to interact with, they'd have to create new animations for vergil for fighting EVERY boss in the game, this would take a lot of time and money to do, you don't create animations these crisp in week -_-

If you play Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition again, you'll notie that they didn't bother making new animations for Vergil in that either. He still uses Reuben Langdon's mocap on interacting with various items, such as kicking the trident into place so you can raise the cage for a key item. Nobody would mind if Vergil reused Dante's drop kicking animation on the Succubus, because people play Bloody Palace for gameplay, not animation consistency. I understand that might seem incongruous for an animator such as yourself, but it's true.

Good point. I do think it would be cool if we could fight Dante's Bosses with Vergil though as well as his own. It would be quite simple too, edit out the cut-scenes.

The problem is that due to how the boss fights are designed (Except for the Hunter), the cutscenes are crucial to the consistancy of the fights. If you removed them from say, Succubus, you'd have her fall from the platform without being drop kicked, then have her pipeline get cut by nothing at all (Or animate Vergil teleporting next to them, cutting them then coming back), et al. The game's overt focus on cutscenes make it harder to mod for that reason.

I'd blame Macabre :/

I raised a simple, on topic point complimenting the modders. Sorry.

How so?

I believe Steve had the best idea, if a working edition fo this is possible it would be done via adding Bloody Palace to Vergil's Downfall instead of the other way around.

Downfall doesn't have a built-in option for Bloody Palace which is why I think that won't work. Steve's mod, as well as Finalzwj's, swap Dante in "his" Bloody Palace so yeah. But if they manage to pull it off, hooray.

You did so at the expense of claiming NT couldn't do something. You could have praised the modders without even mentioning anyone but the modders, like others have. End of story.

How did they work getting Vergil into Dante's normal gameplay sequences? Is that really that different than bloody Palace...?

This is a thread about modders, the people who work hard to provide free content when the developers of the software can't. Nothing inherently backhanded about it; some of my favourite games are basically unplayable without mods, such as STALKER.

Except in this case it's not a matter of "can't." That's what makes it an inherently backhanded comment; you're implying NT couldn't do something when they simply didn't.

I believe this very word here is what TWOxACROSS is talking about. You assume that they can't do it when it all boils down to whether or not they want to or if the head honchos allow it then in that case your sentence is perfectly fine if the big boys say no.

You still can't play with Vergil on the Bloody Palace without mods, if they couldn't or they didn't is trivial.

I'm pretty sure they can, but since Vergil DLC came after and the option wasn't added, there can be a lot of reasons for that to discuss here. So, they are just being lazy or it was impossible for them to add the option, both are bad things.

I love DMC fans. In a few weeks we've nearly accomplished for free what NT couldn't do with millions of pounds.

Much kudos to those working on it.

Shun the heretic! SHUN!

I don't understand this inclination that because they didn't specifically code a Bloody Palace feature for Vergil, that means they couldn't. That's the problem I'm having - they obviously know how to make one, since they already did. The fact that they didn't is probably because of the focus for the DLC. Trying to say otherwise makes no sense, and is really just a slight.

The fact of the matter is, it's cool modders are seeing what they can do.

It's different because Bloody Palace isn't an option you can choose in Vergil's DLC. And the 2 mods are coded so that you enter Dante's Bloody Palace as him, but replaced by Vergil. The given idea wouldn't work because you don't have anything to replace in Vergil's DLC. As far as my understanding goes.

Ah, I get it. And because there are a lot of assets for Vergil that only exist in Vergil's Downfall, they're missing from Bloody Palace when Vergil's put in there?

Exactly. That's what Finalzwj almost fully succeeded in. He put all his upgrades except for mentioned things. Which are tricky obviously. He probably didn't know where to put them in the .ini file or he didn't know the names of them. But that's not all. While Vergil can effortlessly kill Hell and Frost knights with any weapon, a Ghost Rage is really a ghost to him. Attacks go through him and you can't do ****. So that's also something that we have to find a way to resolve.
