Using xbox live with wireless laptop?

I'm trying to figure out how to use my laptop as a wireless router for the xbox w/out an ethernet cable. I have a buddy that has this done in the same building, but he doesn't know how to do it otherwise I'd get his help. I'd like to be able to play VD and BP w/out having to wait until april to do so, so if you guys could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Why cant you connect the usual way? (Router with wireless adapter for 360 on old models & comes as standard for new slim ones). Why skip out the wireless router part? Its possible but its a pain to configure correctly is it to do with wireless strength in the building?
