I know who, and I still don't get why hide. When Dante starts to work with Vergil and Kat no demon in the game is a match for him, guy was already strong enough. Can understand him not really given a crap about what is going with the world,just don't think he was really hiding

He got it recently apparently. In the chronicles of Vergil comic, he got it while in the prison.

Yep, Sparda spoke to him while demons were beating him up and geve him the power of the sword.

Is that novel/comic even canon? I do remember something about Vergil and Kat having an affair of sorts in it and then Vergil erasing both their memories of it. Then again, never readed it myself.

Then maybe it was more like he got on with whatever he felt like and if a demon showed up, he killed it and carried on as before.

well the game's dialogue is dynamic during boss fights based on how the player is doing, for example
-if the player gets hit repeatedly by poison she will mock him/her
-if the player does very well dante will make more jokes that appear less often like "DONKEY PUNCH"

I thinnk the comic is cannon. It shows what happens before the events of DmC. The most Vergil and Kat do is kind of confess feelings and then kiss. The Vergil is worried about his feelings, so he erases the memory.
