I always saw DmC's DT as an evolution of Nero's DT activation.

In DMC4, when Nero activates his DT next to an enemy, the surge of energy can actually do damage.
Do it up close and you launch the enemies into the air.

You can even use it to launch more resilient enemies, like Frosts and even Blitz.

I don't have any official confirmation but I feel that it's probably inspired from Nero's DT.

I never even understood what new trigger was for.

It's totally an Oh Sh!t button in DmC :p

It's balanced a little bit for how powerful it is though, at least, because it takes forever to fill and drains really quickly. As much as I like all the effects that come with the DmC DT, I still prefer the power amp, on and off continuously classic version. I'm still on the fence about whether I like DMC4's access to DT-only moves or ones modified while triggered. IT certainly a cool concept, I suppose. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeh...y'know what? Jumpin' off the fence: I liked the DT-modified moves of DMC4 :p

I kinda wish they improved Dt in DmC: DE, but I'm afraid it to complex. IT had it usage in both fights, by exposing weak points, but outside of it, it was kind of useless. (not talking about weird choice of look of it)

It would have been perfect if Hardcore also increased how much magic you gain, because as it stands, just removing the anti-grav trait actually nerfs it considerably. It's sorta unbalanced now. Or who knows, maybe it was and I just haven't noticed - gotta wait for that change log.
