No Nintendo DS?!

This is some unusual news I read on the Yahoo front page. Thought I'd post it here:) Hope this is the right place to post this since it is about a game console.

Jodi Wykle knew her son would be thrilled when she gave him a new Nintendo DS for his birthday.

Instead, he was rocked.

According to WTSP-TV, the confused teen opened up his gift only to find bunch of stones and a rolled up Chinese newspaper in place of the popular handheld.

All I got was a rock.

Needless to say, mom was equally stunned.

"When he opened it, he was pulling the seal off, my sister-in-law carries a pocket knife and she opened it and that's when he pulled it out and it was Chinese newspaper and a bunch of rocks," she explained.

The troubling discovery prompted the Florida woman to contact the local Wal-Mart where she bought the curious box and complain, but reportedly workers there told her it wasn't their problem and that she should contact Nintendo instead. Of course, Nintendo told her roughly the same thing, leaving mother and son with a $138 box of rocks.

"They don't want to do nothing. They want me to keep the box of rocks. I'm not buying a box of rocks for $138," she said.

Amazingly enough, however, Wal-Mart soon caved after learning that the same box of rocks had been previously returned by another disgruntled customer. How exactly it made it back onto store shelves remains a mystery, but for her troubles, Wykle was given a full refund and a $20 gift card.

It's not the first time Wal-Mart has gotten into hot water for selling a questionable handheld. Earlier this month, a PSP system bought at a different Wal-Mart store in Florida was found to contain a memory stick filled with pornographic images.

Seriously I'd be mad as ****!!!!!!!!!!>_< I've been wanting a DS recently myself.Least they got their money back for all that bullcrap.

i would say the same rep+ to you.
Irritating that the stores doesn't check the containment of a box before putting it on a shelf and that Nintendo couldn't care more.

You can't check the contents without opening it. And then it doesn't look brand new.

This story is just messed up. If Asda did this, you would have half the country complaining.

For those that don't know, Asda is britains wal-mart.

ASDA IS Wall-Mart. Owned by the same company now. But you're right, we would have a nationwide scandal - but, alas I can see where Ninty are comming from, if they have evidence that they sold a DS to Wall Mart, and Wall Mart have no proof that they didn't, its out of Ninty's hands.

I don't know why us Britons are so happy to complain, but it certanly means we're not messed around with by large chains :D

I knew that it was something to do with Wal-mart, didn't know it was. Oh well, learn something new everyday. ^^

It's probably because our society is so flawed that we know we can get away with it. If I wanted to say that unhealthy food is keeping me alive, but school won't give it to me because it's not called healthy food, then I'd make thousands selling the story to the media, and I'd get junk food in school. I wouldn't do that, but I probably could to be honest. Stupid society breaking down...

Wouldn't the person who bought it hear that it was rock inside? or the one who actually put the item on the shelf??? there was rocks... not leaves and that means it sounds, right?

Who said you can't kill two birds with one stone? Or several stones in this case. Both mother and son must of been ****ed off to high Heaven. I would be too if this happened to me.

I can recall that me and my friend were saying how it would be funny if someone got a PSP, but all it turned out to be was just the case. Then again, on second thought; that'd be bullcrap. I'd make sure I got my money back. I don't even take no as an answer.

And it's not Nintendo's fault. The day they start placing rocks into boxes and selling them at prices like that, will be the day I grow wings and fly to the moon. It was Wal-Mart's responsibility, and thank God it was resolved :D
