No Final Fantasy Versus XIII in 2011, Says Nomura

A detailed yet disappointing news for Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

New information about the long anticipated rpg Final Fantasy Versus XIII has surfaced from Dengeki PlayStation’s four page article dedicated to the game.

* The actual battle screen in the final game will show character names.

* Some areas regarding how the battle screen shows commands will probably change for the final.

* Magic has different effects depending on the character who uses it.

* A young blonde male character shown in the magazine’s screenshots is good with guns. He alone has aiming controls and can aim for enemy weak spots.

* When other characters use guns, they have just a normal lock-on.

* The game has a large number of weapons. Main character Noctis can use them all.

* Your battle party can have up to three members. However, the members who aren’t taking part in the battle will join in on conversations.

* There are more party members than the four shown in the magazine. However, the game doesn’t have a massive number of party members.

* Main character Noctis is not “cool.” He’s just a normal youth. He feels “I am strong,” but he’s not as strong as he thinks.

* Some segments of the trailer show natural landscapes. These are like the fields you encounter in other games. The game will have time progression: morning, afternoon, evening and night.

* Contrary to some theories, the dragon rider character who appears in the trailer is not heroine Stella. Nomura says he wouldn’t show Stella in such a state. The character you see in that sequence is an enemy.

* You can steal army vehicles for your use. You can ride air ships, cars and Chocobos.

* The blonde character shown in the trailer is Noctis’s friend. The other two characters are friends from Noctis’s childhood. The person with glasses is like Noctis’s tactician.

* You’ll recall that someone in the trailer says “You’re not fit to be king,” or something to that effect. This statement is not directed at Noctis. (I think everyone assumed it was!)

* Nomura says something along the lines of: This year, we have Type-0 and XIII-2, so please forget about Versus for a while. He asked that people be patient and understand that they’re trying to do something incredible.

* At the earliest, we could see more from Versus XIII at E3.

Give me a break. How long we need to wait for Final Fantasy Versus XIII to be released? Delays and delays, again.

Im not really surprised with it not making it this year and didnt expect it to. They seem to just reveal some info and then not mention it again for months then tiny bit of info again with news of a delay (of sorts) as it hasnt been given a set release yet.

I don't know why it's something to rage over. They take their time with the game, that's good. Let them show you some goodies while you wait, and play the other higly anticipated games afterwards.

The more you wait, the better it will feel to finally play it. Ohh... I remember starting up Final Fantasy XIII after years of wait. It was so sweet. The same when I started up Dissidia after a years wait. Magical. :F

^That's a good way of looking at it. :)

But let's not forget the games that take so damn long to come out it becomes a joke, like Gran Turismo, and the king of delays, Duke Nukem Forever.

But Duke Nukem mentioned the delay in it's trailer at least. XD

I don't know about Gran Turismo though, I've just heard it's name before.

But I see that Square is good at making people wait in suspense. :D
It's going to be good, every bit I've seen from Versus is very promising. When I hear delays I just hear promises that it will be even better than I expected.

If I remember right, Final Fantasy XIII Agito/Final Fantasy Shiki-0 was supposed to be released before Versus as well. But I've seen less of that game than Versus.

Tetsuya Nomura is always a busy guy. Whatever time he needs is up to him because he makes his game incredible. He never disappointed me of the game he developed. GO NOMURA!

Yeah people thought Duke would NEVER come out after 13 years in development and multiple engine changes and Gran Turismo 5 shifted developments a couple of times.

Square Enix needs to put a bit of control on Nomura's projects as he takes too long on development. Hell FFXIII's actual development wasnt long at all, most of the time they spent developing it was mostly spent making an engine. I think in an interview they said it only taken them two years or so to make the actual game after the engine, but had to cut large chunks of the game due to the growing development costs.

Square Enix won't be able to compete with the top WRPG developer, Bioware if they spend all this time making one game.

C'mon Square...you can do it! I believe in you mayn!
