It still an origin story. It's also a reboot. It tells this particular Dante's origin. It's also based on the Preexisting DMC mythos yet deviates taking artistic liberties just as the spider-man films and the different incarnations of Batman deviated from the original mythos story-wise.

Dante starts out as an inexperienced, directionless street punk who's young life has been destroyed by demons. living in a grey dying world on the fringes of society, keeping to himself, he walks streets of a living ghost town seeing through the corruption and decay of the world around him, a world controled by demons. One day, he answers the 'hero's call' rises up and steps into his fathers shoes to liberate us. Journeying, into the very heart of darkness, Dante takes the fight to the demons as a war within himself rages just as fiercely, compelling the young warrior to unleash his repressed soul to gain true power, the power to defeat a god.

Now... that, is compelling sh!t.

(Let's just hope Ninja Theory knows what to do with it...)

That's just my point. This game tells of DmC Dante's origins, not original DMC Dante's. I mean, Limbo City didn't exist in the original DMC series. Even though it's loosely based on the old DMC, it's a totally different universe.

It would be wrong to say that this is the origins story of DMC1, 2 and 4. We already got the origins story in DMC3 (perhaps more so in DMC1).

Yes I did. It's what I can make of the story from the facts, hints and info given in every single interview so far. Also the war raging fiercely within thing comes from a line in the DmC theme song from the tgs trailer. The unleashing his soul was mentioned by Alex Jones who let it slip that it would become a pivotal story element also leading to permanent hair color change later on in the game.... And so on and so forth... I always say: Read, don't rage. If you listen really hard at the strings of small tidbits they give in every interview, you'll learn a lot about this game by piecing them together. Also, I'm not sure where, but I read the demons may be trying to force the unleashing. They need Something from Dante... Or Dante himself.
 
Anyway, I don't think his clothing necessarily needs to progress from tanktop to jacket to symbolize him 'becoming a devil hunter'. In my view, I'd say he already is a devil hunter.

Come on, they could've made him wear some less 'modern white trash'-like clothing.

I know this is an independent incarnation. also, DMC 3 was not an origin story, but, it was a prequel.

Alright. Well, DMC didn't really need a separate game to tell us the 'origins story'. I learned everything I needed to know simply by playing the games and watching the cutscenes.

But DmC is a reboot, so let's not imply that it's the origins story of the original DMC series.

I think he means to say that its loosely based on original DMC series so in a way this is a re-enacting and re-imagining which makes this origin of DMC series in a circle

Dante hasn't opened his shop nor picked out his official devil hunting attire or uniform. He'll become a demon slayer over the course of this story. The hunted becomes the hunter.

Sorry, but that part just seemed like you meant that he'll change into DMC Dante, making DmC his origins story. You know, what with the shop and all. He might not get a shop in this game.

I guess I jumped to a conclusion too quickly, sorry.
