Nero. Is he really Vergil's son?

Thats exactly what i was thinking too that Nero could be a younger brother that Dante and Vergil didnt know about. I think that the only way to find out more about Nero is to read the DMC4 novels.

How would that even work exactly?

From my understanding (and I could be wrong here) I have always thought that Sparda died not to long after Vergil and Dante were born.

At the latest it was probably around when they where just kids.

I see no way he could have been the father of Nero, especially considering how its pretty obvious that Dante is a good deal older than Nero.

Its more likely he is Vergil's son.

Also the novels hints at this as well.

After all it would explain why he does not have a full DT (being that he is a quarter demon) and how he has the blood of Sparda.

It basically said nero might be vergils kid and the son of a prostitute.
go on devilslair.org and read the plot summarry.

You know ur actually right. I completely forgot about Sparda dying when they were kids. And it does make sense of how he is quarter demon. Its just like in DragonBall GT. Pan is only quarter saiyan cuz of Gohan is only half. And because of that Im getting convinced that Vergil could be Nero's father.

This is a bit of a topic shift.
Would people be ok if NT tackles the question of Nero's parentage in the reboot.

I haven't read the novel, but I don't have to read it. Why? As I stated earlier, it is illogical for Nero to be Vergil's son. The time-line does not work out. Vergil would of been about 10 years old when he had sex to produce Nero. Can you see that happening? Not to mention it's the most cliché way to go about explaining Nero, if you ask me. But finally, the best thing I have to go on apart from it being illogical and cliché is this -

Important note: Morihashi Bingo was the scenario designer for DMC3 and 4 but he has now quit Capcom and is currently working as a free lancer. This novel is one of his free lance works so it's really up to you to decide whether the revelations in this novel are canon.

Morihashi Bingo has quit Capcom (He no longer works for them). It's his free lance work. As Vergil'sBitch stated, it's more Fan Fiction than canon. Whether or not he did work for Capcom is irrelevant, Capcom as a Company have not stated that what is in the novel is canon and true to the story.

Yes, I quoted myself. This is an earlier post I made. The Devil May Cry 4 Novels aren't officially canon. There probably on equal levels of being canon as Devil may Cry is. And as I said, Vergil would of been 10 years old when he had sex with this supposed prostitute. I don't think that was on his mind at that age, and only two years after his mother had died.

On a related note, in another Thread someone is talking about Nero's origins. As they said, it states in the Devil May Cry 4 Instruction Manual that he was 'scratched' by a demon and from that day forth his arm changed. I don't see it saying that Vergil came to Fortuna at the age of 10 and hired a prostitute.

^ Open the link and scroll down the page until you come to the characters. For Nero it states that it was confirmed that Nero is NOT a son of Sparda. And for Dante, it states that he is 28/29 because the game takes place after the events of Devil May Cry 1. As I said earlier when I took the time to try and figure out the time-line. Devil May Cry 1, Devil May Cry: The Anime and Devil May Cry 4 all take place in a two year period.

If Dante (And Vergil, assuming he's still alive) is 29 years old in Devil May Cry 4, then Nero must be 18/19 years old himself. Meaning there's about a ten year gap between Dante/Vergil and Nero. So that means that Vergil would of been 10 years old when he had sex with a prostitute. Which is why I said it was illogical for him to be the father, because I don't think he would of gone to Fortuna and hired a prostitute not even that long after his mother died and at the age that he was.

I see what you mean but the link still feels like its outdated information or a second hand source.

I agree.

Is there anything official from Capcom regarding this that can support your claim LordOfDarkness?

I also did not know that Nero was 18 or 19 during the events of DMC4.

I always assumed that he was 16 or something.

Sure, I understand. It doesn't seem to be a great source, but it's a source nonetheless. And I definitely remember that Capcom confirmed that Nero was NOT a son of Sparda.

We can also hold truth around Dante's age from it, as I already researched the time-line earlier. The source claims that Dante is around 28/29, and that it takes place not long after Devil May Cry 1. We know this to be true, because Dante was 28 in Devil May Cry 1. As Trish states that Dante lost a mother and a brother to evil 20 years ago. Dante's mother died when he was eight years old. If twenty years had passed, he'd be 28 in Devil May Cry 1. And he'd be 29 in Devil May Cry 4, because Devil May Cry: The Anime takes place just before that. So we know Dante's/Vergil's age throughout the time-line. After Devil May Cry 4 it's anyone's guess. As I said earlier, I just put him in his 30's to 40's for Devil May Cry 2.

Also I always think on Devil May Cry 4 as sort of Devil May Cry 3, but for Nero. And in Devil May Cry 3 for Dante, he was 18/19. Nero held a lot of maturity. He was also a fine warrior. I think he was at the age of 18/19 in Devil May Cry 4, just based from those three things. That would make Dante around ten years older than him.

If Vergil was alive still (Or if he is) then he'd be Dante's age in Devil May Cry 4, which is 29. If Vergil had sex, let's say, even at the age of 16, then that would mean that Nero is 13 years old in Devil May Cry 4. He does not look 13 years old to me. The youngest I'd say he looked is 17. But I think he's around 18/19 as I stated before. So he's either 10 years younger or around 11 years younger than Dante. So Vergil would of been 10/11 when he had sex with the supposed prostitute. And as I stated earlier, the Devil May Cry 4 Novels weren't confirmed as canon. And if they were, it goes on the basis that not only did Vergil have sex with a prostitute, but he did it so young.

All in all, we can only speculate. We will never know about Nero's origins before Capcom tells us in an official statement. Until then, we can only make theories from the little we know.

Agreed, we can only speculate about such things. But as the Thread's original question was to ask a question we can't 'truly' answer, we are all giving our own opinion on the subject. To me there's a lot of doubt in it. It's very cliche also. And there's a lot of points I've made that just seem to say that he can't be Vergil's son. But people are going to assume otherwise, so I'll just let them do so. I've said all the points that I need to now and given my opinion.

I got another question
if capcom gave you proper evidence to support nero being vergil's son would you still accept him being vergils son?

Well if Capcom confirmed it as official, then absolutely. There's no point arguing against fact and trying to disprove it, that'd just be idiotic. However, the evidence I've given has suggested to me that he can't be Vergil's son. The question I put to you, is why do you want him to be Vergil's son? Assuming that you do.
