My Final Verdict

I respect your perspective, but if that's the case, aren't all stories repetitive and generic? The story of DmC is not too original.

The stories are actually the most unique part of the game because there's a motivation for developers to make sure that they aren't completely ripping off another game.

Have you actually played the game? Try the demo, it's like 10 minutes, see if it's any different in motion. Believe me, it's a different story with the controler in your hands.

I don't care about how a game feels in my hands. Like I said, gameplay isn't my concern.

And may I please say that this isn't a Bayonetta topic. So would you guys refrain from going off- topic.

@Railazel

So you'll pay $40-$60 to just enjoy a good story???

Defeats the original purpose of games.

It's basically like buying an interactive book. Besides, I didn't always think like this. My first was console was a Nintendo 64 and my favorite games were Super Smash Bros. and Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Back then, games were just something I liked playing, I didn't really care for either gameplay nor story but, as I was introduced to games like Soul Reaver and started playing games Jak and Dexter and Sly Cooper, I just grew into liking the stories more than gameplay. Nowadays, the story is my major focus.

You can watch a story for free......on Youtube....hell we have Youtube on our TVs so it'll be like you'll be watching it as if you were playing it on your TV.

Well me its content vs price...it a game has a lot in it to keep me busy (Anarchy Reigns)...story is irrelevant to me...I mean for that game I was spoiled about the ending and I could watch a story walkthrough anytime but I'm still getting the game.....so MANY.DAMN.MODES.SUCH.GREAT.AMOUNTS.OF.GAMEPLAY.CONTENT. That games shines in its online multiplayer experience.

Plus you said you'll watch a story walkthrough and buy the game if the story looks good that contradicts the point of your ideals doesn't it. Why buy a game for the story if you already know the story plays out 100% or already seen it. Basically wasting your money if your not buying it for the gameplay.

That wasn't directed at you.

Play it, don't play, ain't no one forcing you, ether.

This ain't the first time any thread has gone off topic. I douth it'll be the last. But it's not as though it's completly off topic. They are games that don't really get any justice out of the media that's released for it.

I myself can't aford every game I'm interested in but when I', curious enough about the story I just youtube it. Did it for the Persona 4: Arena, the american made Silent Hills, Resident Evil Umbrella and Dark Side Chronicles. If your not in it for the gameplay why spend the money on the game when you can get the story off youtube. Pleanty o' walkthroughs with cutscenes on YTube,

If a book's good, wouldn't you read it twice?

If the game's good and I like the story, I would buy it so I can have the pleasure of having it. It's kind of like how a person would read reviews of a movie before watching it.

There is a difference a movie review doesn't spoil the movie or tell you or shows you all of the scenes but determines the quality of the movie by giving away a couple spoilers. A movie costs $12-$15, a game is $40-$60.

A book is something that is pages and allows for more use of your mind to envision or depict how the events takes place in your own perception. A movie/game's story everything is shown to you plus you can easily dive into a book at any part or examine or nit pick at each piece. However, most of all if I read a book and I liked it I wouldn't pay for the book if I was already enjoying the book for free.

Yeah, but people don't watch books on YouTube.

You guy's missed the point of the analogy.

No you don't get the analogy. If you already watched the story, read the book, or saw the movie for the free why pay to see it again if you can see again for free?

Plus I have an alternate method for people who treat games like this.....

Its basically Netflix for you guys. You get the enjoy the story and the gameplay FOR FREE.......sort off.

I don't think so.
Besides, a story is more exciting whenever you first experience it, by yourself. It makes it far more personal. Just watching it is incredibly impersonal and a slap in the face to the writers.

That's not true. Good movies make the audience feel excited or scared while all they're doing is just watching the screen. A good book could make a person cry from just reading the words. If this game is good, I should still feel emotions and react to the action while I'm watching it- me having it in hands shouldn't be a necessity to really feel the power of the story.

This would just ruin the point of me wanting to watch it first. I don't want to waste time playing a game that I don't like, so renting it is not an option for me either.

Besides, it's not like I'm "spoiling" myself by watching it first since I'm going to buy the game anyways and watching it shouldn't lessen the amount of impact the story would have on me. Simply put, me buying it afterwards (if it's good enough) is just simply so I can have it in my hands.

I don't remember why I was arguing with you in the first place...............heh I'll let you do what you want....it is your money I can't decide whether how you choose to spend it. Regardless in the end it all comes down to whether you buy the game or not.
