My Final Verdict

After hearing that NYCC is DmC's last bit of info release until its official release in January, I've decided to review all that I know of the game and come to a final decision on whether I would play it or not.

My Verdict: I'm not.

While I had conflicted emotions about the game for the past two or three years, the motives for those conflictions started to change. At first, I welcomed it because it seemed unique but bashed it because, well, it could've been its own game. Now, I still welcome the changes but it just doesn't seem to be as unique as I originally thought. The game is like any other DMC game in alot of ways, which turned me off as time went on. I just feel like I'm not going to benefit as a DMC fan if I play this game. The story looks like a mash- up between parts of the other DMC games spliced with some societal ill themes, which isn't bad but seems kind of uncreative. The gameplay is a good mash- up between HS and DMC but I don't play games for the gameplay.

All in all, I don't think it'll be worth playing the game, not because I think it'll be bad but just because it doesn't appeal to me anymore. I've tried keeping up interest but I'm finding it hard to do so. With that said, I'll try to look for something that might boost up spirits about it.

Hmm...too bad, but got yer point. You can always buy it when the sales become cheaper you know!
Well I in fact will be most likely rushing to the stores in the first day if it was d-day.(Bah, possibly it's no-mans land due to criticism. lol)
I wanted a well-done action game all the time and many failed my tastes. But in the demo-play it really got me.
Maybe you should try the demo as well when it comes out.

I might play the demo just to have a taste of what the gameplay is going to be like. Once the game is released, I plan on watching some walkthroughs to see if the story is good enough for me to want to buy it.

A point you brought up makes me think.

There is something I don't exactly like about this DmC; it's too much like all the other DMC's but with a few changed elements, a new Dante that's not so new, and the gameplay being DMC and Heavenly Sword. I liked the way Dante looks, but for some reason, I slowly miss the 2010 look of Dante. It was tough and bold. I like his body and face now, but I miss that outfit. Still like his parka though of now. But anyway, I don't like how the gameplay really IS the past DMC, but just HS mixed. It doesn't really make the game extremely different from DMC3 or DMC4. Story is interesting to me though. I've always been a fan of big businesses getting what they deserved, while watching Dante kick demon ass.

However one of the biggest things that I don't like NT doing with this Dante, is this; Stopping him from smoking.

One of the reasons I liked this new Dante was because he looked more human, and because of that, he smoked. It was a human weakness that I wanted him to keep, and him gradually getting over it as the game progressed as a way to build character. Now that he doesn't smoke at all, it makes him, in my eyes, seem a bit like a goody two shoes who's just to perfect to smoke. I didn't like it with the old Dante, and I don't like it with this one.

I agree. I've been following the game since it was announced. I thought it looked bad at the time and even worse now. Still, because it's a Devil May Cry game, I couldn't help but be curious. I kept up with trailers and such to see where it is going and I'm not impressed. It doesn't look "bad," but there is just nothing I find interesting. It has some good ideas, but that's not enough to get me to play a game. The only reason I've been paying attention to this game for so long is because it's a Devil May Cry game. If it was a new IP I would have ignored it after the original trailer.

My conclusion is that it's going to be a solid game many will like, but I won't be one of them. Oh well.

The gameplay is a good mash- up between HS and DMC but I don't play games for the gameplay.

While I understand you have your own preferences and opinions, I have to point out that one sentence. You don't play a GAME for GAMEplay? A video game is made for the gameplay. To play it for the story is like buying three movie tickets plus popcorn and soda. You're really just wasting your money if you're only buying a game for that reason.

But again, we have different preferences...

I can respect that you don't play games for the gameplay, but DMC? Come on, you're a fan of the wrong series man.

I like to keep up with franchises I know so I tend to waste my money on games which I know I will have fun with because I had fun with them before (in terms of prequels, etc.). Things like Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Halo, Final Fantasy, etc... are games which I've had tons of fun with and while they may change over time they still hold things I can familiarize with, and therefore have much more fun while playing them.

It's actually a shame, it's a real shame that DMC had to go through a change. But in all my years of gaming, this is actually nothing new, and, in some case, it is a good thing. People bash CoD games... why? Because they actually do the same thing over and over and all the games look alike. Hardcore fans of the games will always like it because they are the same but others will hate it because of it... so you will never be able to please everyone.

So will I buy DmC? Yeah... it's not only something I will be familiar with, but it could turn out to be the beginning of a great compilation of future games. Not saying I wouldn't like the old DMC make a return, because I really would like that as well.

However, I do see what some people have said that NT did not stick to their plans very well, comparing the 2010 trailer to most recent ones. They actually submit to some of the fan hate and made the game a bit similar to the others, but again... can't please everyone.

......You don't play games for gameplay?.....?.......My head hurts........I think I'm going to go to sleep.
People play for a million and one reasons. Gameplay is the popular answer but not the only one. People play for fun, to challange themselves, for the story, for online gameplay, to kick it with your buds, whatever!

The point is that this game doesn't approve with him. There are pleanty of other games on the market... Oh, sweet christmas, so many games.

Main point everyone:

This is his final verdict. He said the game looks good, but it doesn't appeal to him specifically.
We've all had games like that.

Let's not gang up on his opinion, here.

Not playing a game for it's gameplay makes sense. Ninja Theory is known for their story telling skills and visuals. So, I can understand where that person is coming from. I played Bayonetta to see if Dante would appear. I bet you loved God of War & Heavenly Sword.

As for Rz, meh, you haven't played the demo yet or maybe you've played far too many copies of DMC. Like Bayonetta or Dante's Inferno.

But isn't the gameplay THE fun and challenging part?

Agreed. Although Railazel I would still give the demo a try just to see what it's like ^_^ But I can understand.

I just think DmC like a rebirth/remake kind of thing, so things from the original series will pop in there. Much like how Silent Hill Shatter Memories was doing it's own thing but was still set around Harry looking for his daughter (although to be honest I haven't played that game yet so I can't be sure.)

Well, we don't know enough about the story to come up for a final verdict for that, as well for the gameplay, difficulty and overall atmosphere of the game. Isn't it a bit early to come up with a final verdict?

This is a forum, Ken. If you post something here, you're asking to be "ganged up" on. Besides, nobody's insulting anybody.
