Lock- On or No Lock- On?

Have you played any shooters lately?

Not really. For some time now I've focused more on turn-based or click-forward etc. type of games because my finger joints aren't doing well enough to sustain excessive burden on them at the moment. Though I did just buy a GameCube-game named P.N.03, which is a third-person shooter, but I've yet to try it out.

I still think there is some kind of lock on in the game...

Probably they'll use the old "if you attack the enemy, the closest one will be hit" system.

Well the game has been released and i can say... The miss of a lockon is huge! It gets really frustrating when in battle. For example:

Few enemies on the ground attacking you and enemies in the air bombing you... You wish to get rid of the air enemies... Forget it... Dante grapples some guy on the ground and you get bombed.

Another: being able to use demon and angel weapons is cool. But when fighting two enemies both angel and demon it would be pretty damn nice to lock on to the enemie you would like to hurt without getting bounced of of the enemie you didnt want to hurt.

To sum up... This game sucks just because there is no lock on and the fights get really messy. I miss the old style dmc! Maybe a lock on dc would be a life saver

I didn't like the auto lock on yea this has more freedom than it did with DMC 2 but the lock on makes for great combos on one enemy and so you can use other moves to target the enemies you want like the flying bathos I rather take them out first but sometimes I demon pull another enemy and the bathos is still alive throwing bombs

after the demo I don't miss the lock on one bit. for me, targeting is the same as before and all throughout the DMC series I've been accidentally targeting the wrong enemies so its really not a big deal.

actually having to hold down 3 buttons at once seems a hellava lot worse.

you could easily add more moves to the existing controls of DmC too so saying that lock on is the only way to broaden the move list is just another possibility.

double tap O or double tap triangle and O or double tap box and X. something I hope to see in the future.

After playing through all the games continously, I've come to a conclusion, the best way to manage lock on on this games is probably a combination of both systems, have a button that locks on the nearest target, and the moment you stop using said button, auto-lock on kicks in, that way you can use auto-lock on for crowd-control or other situations, and then pass to hard lock on to deal with stuff like colored enemies.

Both systems felt lacking in my playthroughs, but as I said before, I found DmC's a bit more comfortable for my style

I prefer lock on but the only part in this game that really bothers me is when I go to pull myself to a flying enemy and it decides to pull me to one on the ground instead. A good amount of the time the game does a good job deciding to lift me to air targets first if I point my camera and or character towards them but other times it will even pull me to the ground even when an air target is closer and in view. The only way to make sure you get the right target is to keep switching target with the joystick click button which I used to use a lot in dmc4 too

And no amount of being good at the game is going to help with that either.

I thought no lock-on would be a hassle, but it's surprisingly easy to choose a target. Even when there's, say, a group of Hell Knights mixed with a shielded Witch, if I try and toss Aquila the game seems to understand who I'm aiming for. And when I'm aiming at Bathos or Harpies, I usually jump just to be sure.

In short, I haven't had any real problems, even in tight spots.

jesus christ LEAVE

Let him have his bullying Jambo.

I do think that the lack of lock on is an intolerable omission, but I also think that the previous DMCs had not perfected it. I'd like to see what a new developer could do with Hard Lock to make it more intuitive.

Well, after playing DmC for 20 hours now I can honestly say that a no lock on policy is BS. I want one, I need one, and I would struggle considerably less with one. The benefits heavily outweigh problems (what in the hell are the problems that come with a hard lock-on, anyway? I can't think of a single one), and I do mean heavily.

I think Lock on is good. Can't see why people would think it's evil or worth getting rid off. It lets you have directional input when doing combos. Some people over at Capcom Unity said Lock on makes the game too easy, but I think that's wrong. If anything no lock on makes the game artificially harder.

I like hard lock-on better than the soft lock-on because you can keep better track of your targets that way.
