aaaah i see what you did there. took me a while but i got it in the end. :)

regarding my final point i was merely referencing that even tho dante has been rebooted. at his core he is still the same dante (personality wise). both he and DMC3 dante are rash, aggressive, witty and over all awesome. while lady and kat dont seem to share any personality traits. take the trailers for example. she tells dante how to leave, not to kill all demons like DMC3 lady would have. she hated demons and wasted no time in trying to killl dante and vergil when she found out what they were. kat on the other hand shows no hint of malice towards dante. im aware that this part of my theory is subjective but it still stands.

Going based on what Tameem said, and how DmC Dante was in E3 trailer 2010 - i'd say their core is not the same.

DmC Dante E3 2010:
Angry and aggressive. And Tameem said he is also dwiggling between good and bad.

DMC Dante:
Not aggressive and likes to kill demons in a playful manner.

Perhaps you haven't noticed but after E3 trailer there was no signs of DmC Dante continuing his smoking habit that he was given. And the angry side of him disappeared. And he became more like DMC 3 Dante. He also received white hair plus red jacket through Devil trigger.
Comparing E3 Dante and DMC Dante - their core comes off as different. Furthermore it took a year to come to the E3 character design for DmC Dante, so one should ask "Why is DmC Dante all of sudden less angry and more like DMC 3 Dante?".

Answer: For same reason Tomb raider and DmC are reboots and not new games, DMC and DmC Dante have been made similar to not alienate fans.

And whether DmC Dante is awesome or not is really your opinion. My opinion is that a copy of another character is nothing awesome at all. Any popularity DmC Dante receives is because of DMC Dante.

However, if he was a new character like Nero - he would probably not be in shadow of Dante.

And you should look at the similarities between a reboot and a original game from a business perspective. It's not a coincedence that DmC Dante have been changed more similar to DMC Dante. Let me illustrate that further, if Capcom really wanted to make DmC a very great game they would allow Ninja theory to come up with new main character and story, as well as helping them make new attacks for the character, new monsters and so on. But instead they have just changed some things but kept much of it from DMC.

If they hadn't named that guy Dante I wouldn't have recognized him at all, a lot of video game main characters are cocky and self-confident this is the "basic profile", it's a cliché among video game heroes.

I think DmC should definitely keep away from DMC, and contemplate becoming a fully independent series.

Anyway my points are: cocky-ness, self-confidence and cool-ness are not relevant aspects in the task of comparing 2 characters in terms of personality/attitude and identifying a specific and unique hero because:
1. most video game heroes are cocky and self confident
2. "cool" is a 100% subjective word.

You people should learn to enjoy it... its a great game I have all the DMC games for ps3 and not once was I disappointed you should look at it from a different perspective its a different world entirely a person is built through life experience and the characters had different lives. also people who keep calling the new Dante a punk really don't remember him in DMC 3, this is totally how I could see Dante being like when he was younger.
Also the issue with Kat and Lady when you look at close face images of Kat even at times in the game she had different colored eyes but they kept changing back to normal also you people didn't mention that Kat not only ran away from home but like Lady she killed her demon of a father.
And you people say she is too docile unlike lady but lady only became the way she was because she was hunting down her father but with Kat she already killed him. She is a foster child, who knows how old she was when adopted so she may not even remember her real name...but that's a bit of a stretch.
I would personally love a sequel that's more in depth with the characters backstories. my only real complaint is that he didn't have a shop called Devil May Cry plus he could have at least said Jackpot!

"I don't know my mother, but if you're calling me a son of a bitch you wouldn't be the first!"
I can't even image Dante (old) uttering that sentence, maybe I just don't get his personality but I think it has dramatically changed with the reboot, the changes in terms of personality are just as significant as the visual changes.

"Father? I don't have a father, I just don't like you...that's all"

I see those lines as virtually interchangeable in the context of how they respond. Not so different, really.
