Just beated the game on DMD :D

You make a good point. I don't mind swearing either but no one likes (or at least I don't) punks who try to act cool and think they're cool by constantly swearing because they're not. I've seen a lot of cutscenes from the game and while he doesn't always swear he swears so much that, like you mentioned in your edit, it loses its purpose and meaning. He swears just because he likes the words most of the time, whereas DMC3 or DMC4 Dante would add in witty comments instead which is much more likeable to me.

Swearing, as with most things, is diminished by saturation. Overuse is a crutch for those poor in wit.

Unless it's part of the character, I agree. Cursing like a sailor is something when done right, makes it a great addition to the character. But when done wrong, it's just bad in my opinion. Imagine it now Sailor Dante. Haha.

And apparently Sailor (Classic) Dante exists: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT3UGNoMnxfYtx4E4NydPV7wPZuXX81rZkW-uVPLcOhSZa3lNGI

You're absolutely right; but my point is that it's hard to make it appear as anything other than reaching for the low seats.

Yeah, I just wanted to insert a Sailor Moon reference because when I think of excessive cursing, I think of stereotypical sailors, try-hard "cool" people, and military people. So, your point just flew past my head, even though I understand it.
