In defense of the Netflix anime

im fine with the vergil twist in the show. its a cool way to bring him and fill in the gap between his childhood and the present day.

i do agree about Lady overshadowing Dante. I wished Shankar developed Dante's past beyond where Dante was in 3 and the manga.

the original pitch for Tony Redgrave was that he was a cop with mysterious powers. So that wouldve been a better fit for this project.

that would be a good pitch for a DMC spoof
This was the image I saw long ago lol

I keep seeing everyone hate on it but why? It's clear from the jump its remixing the canon but genuinely feels like it's made with love and respect to the series. A big complaint I'm seeing is they "nerfed" Dante but his power level is wildly inconsistent even in the games, he can fight demons and survive stabbings but a metal gate in DMC1 or 3 are enough to totally block his path. He can teleport and fly but doesn't just head straight to his objective everytime. Idk. I'm just willing to look past small story inconsistencies like I am the game inconsistencies
I'm confused about people complaining about the "overt political themes" mostly because it seems like the normal amount? i didn't notice it any more than in any other thing, and if people are like "not in my DMC" its a bit get politics out of my video games when politics inherently guide media so like?
i remember the manga and i was excited to see that revisited cause as a tween i was sad that they never finished the story.
I also happen to love taking existing stories and twisting things like in a fanfic. The human demon hunters association is something i've seen in a lot of fanfics and i think it's fun to explore how to make a new take on the DMC lore without changing the baseline as much as they did with DmC. I never played it because of that.
I also like the original anime, and was so glad they made Morrison and Patty canon to the games in some way.
I think if we got a retelling of the exact same story it wouldn't have been quite how people wanted but too close to it for giving it a fresh vibe.

I'm a bit confused as to just how people thought the anime would be. I'm personally excited for more and think introducing some of these concepts in the anime will give people more ideas in their fanfics, which i am a fan of.
