How would you have improved the boss fights?

Well all I can say to that is;
Bayonetta 2
Witch Trials 5
level 2.

I haven't played these games yet, unfortunately...

Well, if the bosses are hard ( despite being giant ), then I'll be happy to eat my own words. ;)

Maybe NT could learn a thing or two about giant bosses, if they make a DmC sequel, which I hope they make it.

Outside of vergil i'd change the other bosses. I would have made the bosses move more ,and since they are demons i would have it that you could only do real damage with demon weapons. That would make em tougher , then you could add counters and blocks for the bosses. Angel weapons would do next to no damage with rebellion doing minimal amounts. Allow them a dodge mechanic too , and give them a few attack patterns that they mix it up between.

It's only the last two bosses of the game that need a fixin'. The rest of them are fine, they just needed to be more harder.

Mundus- Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed that the boss battle of Mundus was a copy of the Succubus boss battle. I'd say just have his boss battle divided in two. One is fighting Mundus in his human form in his lair and the second one is just fighting him on the ground along with jumping around on wrecked buildings and cutting his weak points.

Vergil- I think the boss battle is fine too, it's just a few things.
  • First, have him do melee attacks, along with a counter move of him slicing through Dante and then sheathing his sword.
  • Second, have him trick-counter more attacks, like if he's actually wide open, he'll actually trick you as if he really wasn't, along with a small mini game of Dante and Vergil clashing by constantly tapping /\.
  • Finally, in harder modes(or at least in DMD) have him do larger attacks, like the Judgement Cut being two times bigger than the regular one, or his projectiles being medium energy cutting balls.

Ninja Theory seem to have something against QTE's. But, if done right, they make me feel super badass. MGR is an example of QTE's done right. RE6 is an example of QTE's done... not quite right.

Hunter was the coolest, too bad he was the first to encounter.. what i'm tryin to say is make more like hunter, only more harder, waaaaay harder.. maybe have him like a berserker attack, wham wham wham wham wham wham wham schwaaaaaaaam

I think they were specifically told not to make QTE or made this decision in case of DmC. Otherwise both HS and Enslaved had them.

No, it was Ninja Theory's decision to not include QTEs. Remember reading it I think GameInformer while back.

HellBlade won't have any QTEs either.

I had my doubts when I heard "DMC is being outsourced to a Western company" years ago but as soon as I heard "no QTE" as their standard, I immediately gave it a chance.
The whole "make use of given abilities for all situations" was totally up my alley, because I hated having to press a random on-screen prompt for an out-of-place situation that no tutorial prepared me for.

I heard all this through a video interview. I forgot which one.

I would have removed all the cutscene interruptions, platform swinging, platform jumping, grapple responses, and the random trash talk. If I wanted dante to insult the boss, I would push my non-existent taunt button.

I would also speed the wind-up for most attacks by at least double. The primary evade has invulnerability frames, there's really no excuse for the giant attack lag on some of those bosses.

Basically I want the boss fights to be boss fights, and not 'cinematic experiences'
Well, except for bob barbas. His cinematic experience was actually really well done, and I would totally keep him as he is, though maybe just as a miniboss

I really think the "Taunt" should be contextual somehow.

Dante could give usual taunts if in the middle of combat with regular grunts but he could have specific lines of dialogues when faced against bosses.

And it could have certain timing to it, like taunting right after a Perfect Evade, Cool Parry or taunting when the enemy is vulnerable (like when Lilith herself is open to attacks).

This could totally fix the problem about why they removed taunts in the first place.

Well, the taunt wasn't completely gone. We were just not able to trigger it ourselves. I do love listening to him shout stuff to the demons. I can't think of a lot right now, but he does scream to the hunter 'does it hurt?' and 'ohh, you feel it now, don't ya?' ;)

To improve the bosses they need to make them less stationary and the demon pull/ angel pull should work like Nero's arm in that when you weaken the boss you can demon pull to perform a beatdown. I agree also that there needs to be smaller bosses and that the cutscenes during the fights need to be removed!

The minor scenes in boss fights were only used to transistion in to another part of that fight. It wasn't that big a deal. Helps give that cinematic flare to the experience.

The only cutscene intervention I can think of in this particular series, was the beginning of DMC 4. Those fights could have been playable. I don't see why not.

yea, no problem with cut scenes here, it's functional and rightly placed, and like chancey said, it's for the transition.. plus some part for coolness like those cutscenes on succubus fight.. how the bosses behaves are the ones need tweaking.. if there were no cutscenes like those than you might went, oh, the fights were bland and all.. DMC 4 has bosses cutscenes, DMC 3 has cutscenes, MGRR has cutscenes, Lords of shadow has cutscenes.. so what's with cutscenes?

Yeah, I didn't have much problem with the cutscenes either. It helps cutting the boss fight into parts when I have to explain it to other people how to win it. :D I just thought it was too easy. I wonder what the boss fights will be like on Gods Must Die mode!

It's in DmC so it's bad.

I think what bothers people is that it's in the middle of the boss fights. E.g. Vergil looking up with a smirk on his face after Dante kicks his ass.

Which, I might add, is something that I personally love. :)

I still don't see where the problem might be. You kick a demon's ass the way you choose, a 5 seconds cutscene plays and then you go back to kicking ass....

The game has its flaws(which have been talked about to death already) but i don't think having a couple of short cutscenes during a boss fight is one of them.
