Do you have any insight on what the original version of DMC2 was? I knew it was cobbled together from existing ideas and had a different protagonist.

I remember a few details on the matter. I know that one concept was to replace Dante with a man on a green jacket. There was also talk from Kamiya that whatever team Little Devils were going to use for their DMC2 ended up going into Bayonetta 1. The director of that first draft equated cool with stoick, not lively. He was also an old employee of Diesel, which is how we got the collaboration. From the look of things, personal opinion here, the guy was more interested in the look of the game than the actual development so nothing became concrete till Itsuno was tasked with the project.

There are a few videos on youtube that go into whatever details are available. One of them is from what happened and I think that was the most detailed one I've seen.

Here's some more.

Not sure how much they'll say on the original concept, I haven't finished the Tony one and the other I only saw once ages ago.

Quiet dante is not really dante at all, more like a bad lookalike.

His personality is what most of us love about the character.

A transition to a quieter character could work but the series never pulls it off.

It wouldve been better to use a different character altogether. The game has larger problems but it wouldve been easier to keep the lead characters but leave the game in the past. Rather than dance around it like they did pushing 2 after 4 but then changing their minds with 5 and pushing it back before 4.

In hindsight, Quiet Dante would be a better foil for Nero and Crazy Dante would be better for Lucia.

He may have had more personality in 2 for the parts dante actually had some one liners or wasn't a mute or stoic

Reuben is just naturally a more upbeat guy.
