How do people feel about the controls?

Maybe this is just me but I really don't like the fact that I have to hold down the trigger buttons to stay in the respective modes. That was actually one of the things I did not like about Heavenly Sword. Besides this the rest of the control layout look like a Devil May Cry game.

On the other side I really did like how in DMC 3 all I had to do was press the L2 or R2 button down once to switch to a different weapon and then press it again when I feel like going back to my other one.

I just want to ask wouldn't it have been better if you were in your regular mode (Rebellion) and if you wanted to switch to your angel mode (scythe) to just press the left trigger button once and then stay in the mode instead of holding down? same goes for holding down RT for demon mode.

Like I said maybe it is just me and I really am not fond of holding the trigger buttons down just to access my other moves. What does everyone else think/feel about this control scheme?

Think of the trigger buttons like the lock on buttons from the past DMC games. To me, I've played DMC2 and DMC3 the most so that lock on holding can be a b*tch to do.

It's not going to make much of a difference for me. Even when I didn't need to lock onto enemies, I'd hold the button down anyway out of habit.

I haven't played it yet so I have no real impressions yet, but it wasn't hard in HS and it usually takes about ten minutes to adjust to any control scheme, so I think I'll be fine.

I think of it as the lock on button. I held i t down most of the time anyway so now i just switching buttons instead instead of holding R1/RB.

To be honest, I like it^^
It was slightly strange at first, but I had it pretty much down after two minutes.
It felt like playing Devil May Cry, with different graphics.
The only thing I that I hope they'll improve is the auto-lock on, or at least tell you which enemy you are facing right now.
I've played it at gamescom by the way^^.

There is no need for 2 f*ckin dodge buttons.

yes there is, think about it. you need to keep hold of the L2 and R2 buttons if you wanna use the angel/demon weapons. so lets say u use the middle finger in your hand for it. ok. now u need to dodge an attack but are still in demon mode. lets say dodge is R1. so ur using youre three strongest digits to control while supporting the controller with your palm and your weaker fingers. so theres a good chance itll fall if you..i dont know have to dodge quickly so push hard on the button.

also not everyone plays all gung ho with all the L1,L2, R2,R1 buttons ready for instant use so its easier to have an alternate so you can keep the support of the controller while accomidating how people will play

.......l.thought about it......nope doesn't need 2 dodge buttons. Plus its only one pair of left/right button your pressing...one can easily shift one of their middle fingers in to perform a simple dodge...its not any harder than adjusting your thumb from the control stick to the d-pad to switch weapons via mid-combo than it is to put your middle finger on one trigger button.

Maybe its the PS3 controller but it feels perfectly fine for me on an Xbox 360 controller.

well im not too sure. i mean it looks like a mechanic they added after a lot of testing on the public. they saw how people played and felt that they needed two dodge buttons. if you disagree thats fair enough . i imagine you can change it in the settings of the game anyways.

Whatcha talking about it was in the first public demo that they already programmed 2 dodge buttons in the game.

yh but they admit to inviting people (mainly gamers) into the studio to try out the game ages before the "public" played it. which is why i think it was something that came from a lot of testing.

........................Nope still don't need 2 dodge buttons.......those players were probably noobs or not skilled/experienced DMC players but average gamers.

I and many other players have literally switched weapons and still lock on before its no different.

hey so do i. and you cant say that theyre noobs as you dont know who they are. besides, i think its a good idea. they have legit reasons. remember this game isnt just for hardcore players. its for the casual gamer too. its not permanent either so i dont see the reason for the hate.

I don't even care about this casual vs. hardcore debate if the gameplay works don't fix it.
Anyways it's not even fair to call other people casual and other HC, some of us need to go to job and take responsibility, if your virtual penis does grow a little go ahead but think about that first.

The two dodge buttons remind me of airbrakes in WipEout you could manage with one button for left and right brake but why torture yourself? Betcha half of you guys wouldn't stand a chance in that game, now does that make you casual?

And yeah try to take it with humor ^_^

having two dodge buttons is just convenient to have since the two back buttons are gonna be a main part of the game. Not all people can play games with 6 fingers at once, and i happen to think thats a little too excessive. Its like Prototype, and what a clutter **** of a control scheme that it.

When you hold the left trigger with your left index, how will you comfortably dodge with only a left dodge button? Or what about the right trigger with only a right dodge button? There are two dodge buttons because the trigger finger that is free can always be used to dodge comfortably on the opposing button without having to release a trigger. During a play-through on Capcom-unity, it was demonstrated by the player, while playing, that this was convenient and would not be very ergonomic to the control scheme otherwise. Also, it allows you to dodge either to the left or right without having to move the control stick in those directions. Also, holding both allows you to dodge in place. Dodging in place cancels out of certain moves like the angel dash quickly as well. There are a growing number of uses for the setup that even the demonstrators are still discovering as we continue to see with successive demonstrations.

Give up, he doesn't want to admit that it makes dodging easier :O

How about for the fact that left-handed and right-handed people will both have an easier time dodging without going against their instincts? I know that, since I'm right-handed, I tend to dodge to the right in games more than to the left. That's another reason that it's good to have two dodge buttons. And because some people forget exactly which button to push, so this gives more options.
