Greg from Capcom Unity muses on DMC and DmC

I do feel that some crucial pieces of context have been left out of some of the trailers in favor of immediate impact, and that this has given people some very hard-hitting misrepresentations of the characters. It was the same thing with the initial announcement and Dante looking all beaten up.

But yeah, while I do think Dante lays the profanity on pretty thick--he is a ****ed off, tormented orphan on the streets, after all--you get a sense of his underlying vulnerability in the greater context of the full game. Keep in mind that this is the story of a young Dante discovering his origins and coming into his own, and NT's put a lot of thought into his motivations and how the world(s?) around him continues to affect him throughout the game.

My take on the "eff you" scene was that it was an unfortunate part to single out when people still hadn't seen much of Dante or the story. It's just a silly throwaway gag in the grand scheme of things, not an example of the characters' depth.
Appreciate the answer Greg thanks a lot. I personally didn't enjoy the writing when I saw it on youtube at E3 but when I played the game I went "I have no idea why but the absurdity of this dialogue is actually hilarious so I'm hoping that translates to the full game." One more question if you don't mind but you showed off the Aquila in your live stream (which looked awesome btw) and I wanted to ask does Aquila power up with repeated use similar to Osiris or is that something unique to Osiris?

I can understand how people can get worked up over the "**** YOU" scene, it does come off a bit crass. However, the bits of footage we have seen show that there's a lot of potential for good storytelling. Not only that, even though Dante is cocky and arrogant, he's got some serious moxie. Which I like. He's not the same Dante, and I hope he doesn't become the same Dante. He's unique.

The Poison boss battle seems to be thing that's gotten people up in arms, but that same sequence shows off same good characterization towards the end.

"I think you're all mixed up."

It's slightly somber, but it's mostly about Dante being triumphant while still showing a tinge of wit. That scene sold me on new Dante.

This has been my theory for a while. Good to know I wasn't entirely wrong.

Also - I hate to bombard you with questions, but there was something that I've been wanting to get clarified. The Pre-order Weapon Skin packs that we can get also come with "Character Perks" like Orb Harvester and such. My question is; are those Perks exclusive to the DLC, or are they something that can also be acquired in the game itself with Upgrade Points?

Yeah, I guess the important takeaway from the Poison scene is that he's pretty apathetic in the face of this huge, repulsively evil creature. It's really not a far cry from the scene where DMC1 Dante first encounters the Griffon--"Flock off, feather face! Or you can stick around and find out the hard way!"

You might also interpret his responding in kind (remember, Poison says it first) as a way to illustrate his youth. It's a bit of an immature reaction, but not an unrealistic one for a young man (teenager?) trying to prove he's tough when he may or may not even know how tough he actually is. Remember high school? There was kind of a lot of that.

Therein lies that vulnerability I mentioned. It just so happens that he is, in fact, incredibly freaking tough. He just doesn't quite handle himself with the 100% coolness of an experienced adult (see DMC1 Dante).

>Aquila question

Nope, the "Feed" ability, as it's called, is unique to the Osiris.

>DLC question

I'm actually not sure what the answer to that is--which is to say I've never heard it mentioned in DLC plans. Can't really give a 100% sure answer here, but I'll definitely give an update if I get one (and am given the okay to talk about it ^^;;). Also keep in mind that you can start earning yourself some orbs right now with the iOS/Android app, so if you're not planning to get the pre-order bonuses, that's an alternative option.

Thanks, man. Not an imperative question, but I was just curious, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

And I wish I could play that game; I have a dumbphone :p

I might play it but mobile games aren't really my thing, I already have my DmC pre-ordered and payed off as it is so I don't think I'll need it anyway. I really want this game to sell so I do wanna support it. (hence me converting all my friends who started off disliking it to ether pre-ordering it or getting it when they have the cash and getting the friends who weren't fans of the original series to try the new one and love it.)

My issue is with the people who act like they're mature. When did gamers suddenly become the most mature people that they can't take FU in a game. Nero swear shi- and "**** me off". Gears of War has you chainsawing people in half. RE series says shi- often etc. DmC swearing doesn't bother me in the slightest and I found it humorous because Dante is clearly smirking in that scene. Cheeky banter really.

It's because Classic!Dante never really swore all that much in the games, so it's a disjoint in the character for some people who keep forgetting this is an Alt Universe Dante, not the same person who becomes classic!Dante.
