Alright, so after rummaging around a while out there, these were the only free sites I could find that didn't require a membership so, enjoy:

https://www.scirra.com/

http://www.engine001.com/

http://unity3d.com/unity

Also, while Stencyl doesn't require a membership either, its dev tools require that they always be online to work. *sigh*

Oh well. That's the way these things go.

Off-topic:

On that note, the dangers of DLC and the like usually mean that the DLC won't be available after a certain time, meaning that if you want full content for your game, you'll have to get it now before the servers for this generation's servers go offline permanently.

I hate internet-dependent, "always-on" programs. They're the bane of digital freedom.

So... yeah. Get all your DLC now before the servers go offline in 2015.

Played around in Unity a little and its a great program, though my laptop refuses to run it properly now so going to have to wait until new PC is built to play with it properly.

Wow... didn't know Unity was so finicky. Looks like I'll have to get a new laptop as well. *sigh*

But in any case, it's good to see more people being interested in this sort of thing. Here's to breaking the chains of the industry. :)

To be honest my laptop sucks and used to run it ok but it barely runs anything anymore. I have purchased half of the components for my new PC, just a handful more to get and I shall start building it.

Good luck with that -- it's going to take me a really long time to get a good (or even above-average) laptop where... I can really start with the PC exclusives (and a few 'enhanced' ports) that I'd missed out on -- also, it's because I prefer physical copies. That's just the way it is with me.
