how is she a plot hole?

Since they made eva an angel and are building her up, im guessing she may make an appearance.

what part does she play in dante's life? what part CAN she play in DmC? As of right now it doesn't seem like trish really fits the story or with this dante very much.

Not with this Dante, but the possibility of her showing up in it is likely...

no idea as we dont know the story nor nt's own stance/feelings towards the canon.

its not hard to think of a role for her.

i talked about it with darkslayer13 in another thread, i could give you the cliff notes.

He didnt say how Mundus would know to to advantage of his memories if anything Mundus would make a copy of Eva just to throw Dante off since he probably doesnt know if she's alive or not, not because he had a flashback of her.

2. yes, she should be in the game. go make a thread about it.

On Topic: since Dante doesn't know Eva in this game is would be difficult to include her in DmC in any significant role but she should be included in a sequel after Dante learns a bit more about his mother. there are a lot more things to do with a demon that looks exactly like an angel than just confusing one half-demon so Mundus would have reasons to create Trish even if Dante doesn't know Eva. For this idea to work Mundus would have to create Trish before DmC and then send her to do something that keeps her occupied during DmC allowing her to be included in DmC2 even if Mundus dies in DmC.
