don't get why some people made the new DMC such a big deal everything changes for a reason

No, you're right, it sold 1.97 million as of November 30 2013. DMC4 sold 2.8.
Oh okay. Because my head was about to explode for a sec there.

Actually, truth be told, I kind of would have liked for DMC2 to have been the one to sell the most. It would have been a crotch-kick from wayyy left field. It's often viewed as the blacksheep and gets the cold shoulder by most gamers. But if they were to learn, that was the standard for the series, people would drop their jaws to the floor over such a mystery.

Yeah. But then, sales figures don't always say everything. If DMC2 was such a disaster, why did it get 1.97 million sales in total up to now? Answer: because DMC1 was a good game and got people in the mood to buy the sequel. Aside from that, it made the DMC series known, whereas nobody had heard of it when DMC1 was just released (obviously! I mean, it's the first game in the series ).

I think DmC's better because it has more too it than just the combat, like the music, level design and the visuals. I thought DMC 4's soundtrack was terrible and the levels were dull to me. Only redeeming factor was the combat. I also hate anime type dialogue so the "westernisation" of the franchise is a plus to me.

And that's how you know everybody has a different opinion. I personally hate music like Noisia and stuff, so I would never want to hear it in games. I also thought the graphics of the old games were surprisingly sharp and full of contrast, so games like DMC3 and DMC4 win again in that department (at least for me). Level design wasn't great in DMC4, but I can't say it was objectively better in DmC. I guess it depends on what you like. I don't really care for a few moving platforms, and I think the engine NT used was wrong for a Devil May Cry game.

True sales don't say anything about the quality of the game... but still the thought is funny. Also you have a point, some fans didn't come in until after DMC1... I would say 3 drew in the most despite selling well below the others.

I agree.
*And that's why DMC4 sold so many copies (2.8 million). More fans, more interest.

I thought the concepts were cool in DmC though it's visuals were lifeless and glowed intense orange and blue everywhere. I will say that DmC had some cool tracks... but I also hated a few too. As for DMC4, I thought the ost was alright for the most part but not as great as 1-3.

It makes sense.

Everything else was opinion but this? DmC's graphics are far superior, simply because it's more up to date. There's no debating that.

Well, if DMC4 or DMC3 were up to date (they were made in 2005 and 2008), they might look better than DmC. I don't know, it's just my opinion that DmC doesn't look that great (at least not on consoles). If there were a DMC5, it might look very nice. I'd still take DMC4's graphics over DmC's, because it's less choppy.

Well I was around 10-12 when kh 2 came out so I didn't know any better.

As it stands DmC has better graphics, so I don't see how you can say it looks bad and then say you prefer DMC3-4 graphics.

But that pic is from the recent KH game... plus DMC came out before the first KH.

Lol I kidd.

I didn't say it looks bad, I said I think it doesn't look that good (opinion). I prefer DMC4's graphics because they're less... choppy. More smooth and uniform, and there's quite some contrast in it. I just explained that - did you miss my comment? You said that was not an opinion, well, I'm saying it is. If I had to choose between DmC graphics and DMC4's, it would be DMC4's. Not because DMC4's are better, but because they have the features I look for in graphics.
Besides, I suppose DmC's graphics on the consoles aren't great, since there are a lot of games that look thrice as good. If we had gotten DMC5, it would've probably looked better than DmC. NT don't focus on graphics that much, I guess.

What has that got to do with anything? I said I played KH2 as a kid and Riku was my favourite character.
In response to your distaste for anime dialogue I pointed out the KH sig. You said KH2 was an exception because you were young so I pointed out DMC also had been doing it for a long time. It's only a joke lol.

I don't really see how the DMC games have anime dialog, though. It seems perfectly normal English to me. Not overly dramatic, either (except for the times when it's meant to be dramatic). I don't know, would Vergil be an example of 'anime type dialog', according to you? Because he speaks perfectly normally. Unless people have forgotten how decent English is spoken, I'm at a loss for words right now.

I assume it's the voice acting that makes people say that rather than the script itself. It's not believable but it certainly fits in just fine.

Yeah, but the voice acting is pretty good, too. It fits the things that happen perfectly (well, aside from maybe DMC1 Dante's ''Fill your dark soul with LIIYIIIIIGHT!''). Meh, maybe I'm just used to it or something.

Talk about stupid-ass sales (or stupid ass-sales!) aside...

What quantifies "too soon" in this. During DmC's development, they had said that if not for DmC, there would be no more Devil May Cry games. The franchise had essentially died after DMC4 within Capcom, but after a few years, they figured "No, why not give it another try. Let's do all the things we wanted to do but never got a chance, and try something new to appeal to a greater audience, get DMC out of its niche circle."

"Too soon" seems very subjective, and simply something to be said against DmC itself. There's no agreed-upon time limit on when a series is "allowed" to be rebooted. It can happen whenever the IP holders wish.

Be happy they didn't mess up the precious classic canon with their changes. It's also obtuse to think that DmC negated the classic series in anyway, when Capcom itself has repeatedly said that nothing was abandoned, and DmC was to breathe life into a franchise that had for all intents and purposes ended at that point. Seeing that people care so much about the franchise now, they have more incentive to continue the franchise (classics or Ninjaverse, what have you), and yes - there have been talks of DMC5, or at least Capcom's idea to possibly make more.

However, in that respect, I'd be worried that Devil May Cry would become as annually soulless as Call of Duty :/
