Some things I didn't see mentioned, or just parts were (sorry if I missed anything reading the thread); as I'm kinda beginner myself - only played through DMC4 4-5 times in total, and two of these were quite some time ago - I assume these would be handy for beginners:
This "tip" amounts to cheating, but in second Dante fight (mission 10) it is possible to get on top of that thing in center of the room, and just use Buster when Dante tries to follow to get him back down + take off some of his health - it is quite easy to see where he'll jump. If he does manage to get up, jump down, and then back up when he gets down. But this is not a smart think IMHO as Sanctus fight becomes even more annoying than usual if you don't do Dante fight properly, as does first Dante fight in New Game Plus mode.
Against Big Toads, when you get it to rest for a bit (temporary K.O.), target the tongue for massive damage - first one or two sword attacks, then either Buster or Pandora.
(Nero only) Against any unshielded (no energy field) enemy, but especially Dante - get close to them, and wait for exact moment when they start attack to Buster them. This will make them incapable of evading the Buster. After that, you can continue attacking, but against Dante, it is recommended that you back down and wait for him to attack; rinse and repeat. As for Dante's Stinger attack, evade it with jump / double jump (latter works better), Snatch Dante and then Buster him.
Dante's styles - these can be pain in the ass to learn all, and I didn't even attempt it, but my advice is to specialize for one style, perfect it, and only then attempt to learn the next one. Since I prefer close-quarters combat, I chose Swordmaster to specialize in, but different people = different preferences. I sometimes use Gunslinger as well (those rare times I choose to attack enemy from afar, for crowd control for example) but I never found any use for styles beyond these two. As for Nero, I found Blue Rose mostly useless except for the crowd control - if there are too many smaller enemies, use Charged shot to throw some of them back, then follow up with sword on those in the front.
Against Berial and Sanctus - when you manage to eat away their shield/flames and stun them, do one or two more sword swipes, and then follow up with Buster (for Nero) or Pandora rockets (for Dante), and get the hell out before they recover; rinse and repeat. Against Berial, try to stay in the air and
behind him as much as possible. Sanctus telegraphs his attacks (especially in the second fight); "Repent!" - jump and snatch to avoid ground wave attack; "The Savior is Coming" - get away from him; "AAH!"/"Burn!" - just run to the side; "Resistance is futile!"- snatch him; "I sentence you to death!" - strike him few times with the Red Queen; "The power of the sword!" / "Prepare for judgment!" - use Buster attack to counter his charge and inflict some massive damage.
Against Echidna - when she charges at you, roll to evade it.
Against Agnus - if he manages to grab you and starts sucking up energy, use DT to cancel it. If he doesn't do that but simply starts to suck up energy, simply attack, attack, attack - he'll get stunned and stop the theft.
Against Gladius opponents - with Nero, it is possible to Snatch them out of the air and throw them at other Gladiuses. With Dante, get up close and blast them with Pandora; otherwise, evade and blast them with Pandora once they get stuck into the ground.
(Nero only) Against Angelos - use Snatch to get behind them, then either Buster or sword attack (S+Space+I then W+Space+I; sorry, can't remember how combo is called exactly). For Dante, platform jump is a handy replacement.

Using proper punctuation would help a lot IMO.
