Really? Like what? Because Dante once talked about how it looked to him like his mother and father loved each other and other instances it doesn't sound like when Dante is talking about him to be a second hand account of it.
This was in anime. In DMC1 booklet and DMC 1 novel says Dante didn't know his father personally.Even in DMC1 game, Dante says it was his mother who told him how his father was.
Same with Sparda's death: in some media he is given as "dead", in others just as a "disappeared".

Good question... I've have to re-read it to give you that specific detail, since it was long ago.

Aside from them been twins and how often identical ones tend to be weirdly alike even when they've never met, they were trained to fight by their father and they even spared together as children, not that hard to believe.
Like how when Vergil uses the Force Edge, he uses some of Dante's moves with Rebellion. Or Dante using Vergil's fighting style (though not quite as good) with Yamato
@Gel Wasn't the DMC1 novel declared non-canon due to contradictions with DMC3?

I thought so, but seeing that artbbook , it seems everything is valid, even with blatant contradictions. Anyway novel's Dante's personality was better than DMC3's/DMC4's one.
