But there are plenty of legends of people beating death.

That's all well and good but we're talking about the biblical angel of death, no? In the Bible, if the angel of death comes, you are dead. The only person who has beaten death in the Bible was Jesus but, technically, he already had authority over it by default.

Well, that's kind of hard to do. Setting limits would depend on what outcome we want.

well, if there were a power rating system of some kind, we could make them about equal, then judge on their skills and abilities, in this scenario, i think Dante may have an advantage because, i may be mistaken here, but he would have fought tougher fights and learned from them, wheras it's kind of hard to learn something about something you automatically can hack, think about the hacking gamers who actually have no idea how to play, i don't know the history of either one so you can fill in the other half of the story for me.

That's a tough issue. Under what criteria would you base this system on?

then judge on their skills and abilities,

That's also a tough one.

That wouldn't be the case. You're talking about a man who has defeated the Devil of his world vs. Beings with literally infinite power. You have to remember that the Angels are given power on a whim, they don't have set abilities or skills.

In all appearances of the Angel in the Bible, they act according to what God asks them to do. For example, one angel was told to stop a man on his donkey from travelling, so the angel only had the ability to stop the man and nothing else. Other angels are only allowed to provide a certain kind and amount of information.

consider this, let's imagine that it's SOMEHOW possible to give them the exact same power level, including all skills and ability being identical in every way.

Dante has more experience fighting where defeat and death are very real possibilities, he actually would have a skill advantage (i don't know the angels past, so may be not?)

That's also not true, because to make them exactly equal would lead to the Angels being given the same amount of knowledge as Dante, the same reaction speed, the same strength, etc., etc.. It'll just be a draw.

As for their pasts, the Angels don't have "fighting experience". The moment they initiate a fight or a battle, they either win it or lose it in accordance to God's will. So if he wants them to win, they win. If he wants to lose, they lose. So they don't have combat experience in the sense of how we understand it. To them, fighting is a command, not an event or a part of life.

actually i didn't think of that, you're right.

well if we could set them to same power but keep their skill level, Dante would win, otherwise i do believe Dante would die easily.

i thought as much.
