dmc reboot?

DMC

Devil May Cry
what the devil is this thing about? ya the action looks awsome but is dante like reborn or wat?

It's an alternate-universe character piece.

Dante's in his late teens to early 20's, and he and Vergil face off against demons in a world almost entirely unrelated to the earlier Devil May Cry games.

It's an alt universe game in which a different studio is making. You will still have your DMC5.
Also vergil is playable through DLC.

That's not correct, the game is a reboot of the whole series, not an alternative universe.

The term reboot does not make it not an alternate universe. It is not part of the original continuity and doesn't erase the original continuity so it is an alternate universe.

I love it when people try to change the definition of words and add restrictions to them.

A reboot, at its core, only means "to go back to the beginning/start over." DmC doesn't retcon anything in the classic series, and doesn't try to replace it either. As such, it is an alternate universe, best explained in the way so many comic book iterations exist without affecting the others.

Lol, whatever people still think. It's obviously a replacement for the whole original, thus no DMC5 or anything for that matter with original characters ever. You can tell me in 3-4 years again how it is an alternative universe with DmC2

Dude...they've stated it was an alternate universe and had nothing to do with the established canon for years now, and if you weren't so blind, you'd see how different DmC is to DMC, and how they couldn't possibly be the same

The only people who ever said it was a replacement were the idiots who listen to and spread useless rumors. We don't have a DMC5 because they want to try something a little different first - DmC, and see what they can learn, and how to better expand the overall DMC experience. What, you'd rather Capcom just sh*t out a DMC sequel with little thought and to extremely mixed reviews like so many other Capcom IPs have been lately?

I'd rather Capcom take their time, and learn a few things, before just riding on their own hubris and the past success of their titles. Developers shouldn't make a sequel because they know people want it, they should develop a sequel and make us want it, give us a reason to want it beyond "the next one in the series."

WELCOME! TO THE FUTUUUUUURE!

And the think the word you're looking for re-envisioning. Sort of like the new Tomb Raider, DmC is starting it all from scratch with an origin story and placing it more in a modern real world setting instead of an anime style one. So it's all a fresh take that'll be going more into Dante and Vergil's past, why they fall out, things on Sparda and Eva, Mundus, and generally what will lead to Dante possibly opening Devil May Cry. But also kind of like how Lara in the new Tomb Raider is learning to be stronger and become Lara Croft through her journey, it's Dante on his own journey through the events in the game that will inevitably change him for the better.

So, I guess another word for it would be an adaptation. It's doing it's own thing, but still taking references from the classic series. It's like Devil May Cry being turned into a film kinda thing...understand? o.o

Again DmC IS NOT an alternative universe. You can't compare videogames with comics in terms of canon.
It was said numerous times to be a reboot by Capcom and NT representatives, the last time during a live questions&answer on CU 2 weeks ago? They have plans for another "devil may cry" by 2015, you really think that they would bother to release a sequel after 7 YEARS? If it isn't clear enough to you that DMC is gone and DmC is to stay, then I have some bad news for you.

Oh well, they said they were making DMC5 and making NT do the work for them for DmC.
Capcom also said in the magazine in my country (Japan) that they are doing a project to make DMC and DmC in 2 year intervals in turn to refresh themselves and to make fans happy.
So I think the 2015 DMC will be DMC5.

It was said numerous times to be an alternate universe! For YEARS! And most of the dev staff consistently talks about it being one in the same vain as things like comics. You're trying to enforce an incorrect definition of things, and it just doesn't work. It is a reboot, and it is an alternate universe. They aren't mutually exclusive things, and how is it only allowed to work for comics when they're just another medium to tell a story?

I totally can compare games and comics in terms of canon, because they aren't any different.in that regard. Ultimate Spider-Man is one of many iterations or "universes" of the Spider-Man franchise, different, and yet co-existing with Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, and all the other Spider-Mans out there. The same with Batman, its animated series, its Tim Burton movies, and the Christopher Nolan movies. It's no different here with there being DMC in one universe, and DmC in another. Or hey, let's take all the different iterations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, or all the different takes on Peter Pan. It's not exclusive to comics, and has been used in plenty of other mediums from books, to TV, to movies.

It was also never said about what the future of DMC as a franchise would be on that Q&A, I was at that, and Dom Matthews couldn't talk about it. And really? 7 years is too long to wait for a sequel? Mega Man 9 would love to have a word with you and its eleven years since Mega Man 8 :/

I could honestly care less whether DMC is gone or not, because I prefer to take things as they come, but if you want to continue getting your panties in a wad over some contrived idea that Capcom has abandoned the classics series despite them constantly saying they haven't abandoned anything, then carry on my wayward son.

Why not give us a reason why you think there will be no classic DMC except for long intervals? (The game franchise is quite known for long intervals anyway)
