DmC As An Origin Story

Maybe, maybe not, it's extremely if- y with me. Considering all the facts, it seems kind of weird how this could be an origin story, if it is at all. As far as origin stories go, they try their best to show us how a character changes into what we know him/her as, so there's generally a contrast between the character in the origin and the character that we know him/her as in the present. Take Tomb Raider for example, they are re- designing her so that we see a far less- experienced Lara Croft and the game will show us how she'll become the Lara Croft of future games. Same thing goes with Smallville for Superman and Batman Begins, both showing beloved characters in a less mature state of mind, growing wiser as time goes by.

So, if DmC is an origin (it seemingly is debatable at this point but some resources of DmC info still refer to it as such, IGN being an example), then what's the point of it? DMC3 was an origin story, it showed us a Dante in a less mature, different state of mind, experiencing something that'll turn him into the Dante from DMC1. So will DmC show us a Dante changing into DMC3 Dante? Or someone else?

In fact, how would you define what an origin story is? Personally, I think that it just shows an event in a character's life that transforms from being what he was into what we know him as in his future.

EDIT: Made a mistake on the polls. The other options were:
"No because this is the first game in a completely new series, so they'll need an origin for this Dante."

I think you may be misunderstanding their use of "origin story".

Have you ever seen the new Batman movie series called "The Dark Knight"?

It is the "origin story" for the new and rebooted Batman film series.

I'm pretty sure IGN pointed out that much....

Which means this DmC game is indeed a origin story to the NEW REBOOTED DMC series but NOT a origin story to the original DMC series.

It's not a origin story. It's just Capcom allowing Ninja theory to make a new game that maintains DMC stuff so that it sells well.

If it's a origin story - how come white hair is a cause of demonic powers, when in DMC it's genetic of Sparda?


DmC is just Capcom doing gameplay and Ninja theory making a new fiction story USING DMC Dante to sell more.

They could have made a new game with DMC gameplay, but new characters and story. But they didn't.
Answer: They need Dante, rebellion etc for marketing.

Yes.

Like I said, the new Dark Knight movie series is also a "reboot" of the batman film series.

Its origin story is Batman Begins.

And Its pretty obvious that this new DmC game will play a similar role.

If it's a story explaining early story of a serie then why not just call it a new story or a new game? "Origin story" is very misleading.

I still see tons of Youtube comments saying "This is before Dante became who he is".

Its not really confusing at all IMO.

I just see it as those guys jumping the gun and ASSUMING it takes place before DMC3.

There are instances as a pointed out where a rebooted series had a origin story such as Batman Begins for example.

Really not hard to understand IMO.

But why call it that constantly? "Origin story"?
Why not once have variation in language and say "Beginning story of DmC"?

Just because there are people who are too ignorant to see that this origin story is for the new Devil May Cry and not the original series doesn't mean that it isn't an origin story.

Just saying they could have said what it was in a other way than using word "origin". English is certainly my third language

In general, I dont mind it as a origin story since we dont really know how he became a hunter of demons but since its not canon than what was the point of it?

Well it was my fault also.

I should have clarified in my initial post that I meant The Dark Knight series was a reboot and that Batman Begins is the origin story.

I expanded upon what I meant in my third post hence the reason why I asked you to read it.

The Batman movies aren't exactly the best comparison considering that none of them are "reboots" of Batman, more like re- imaginings of his character. Batman Begins is the only one of the movies that has canonical value in that it gives his actual background.

I would say that this is a re-imagining of Dante's character as well. An origin story means that it is a story about how it all started, so this new Devil May Cry could easily be an origin story. It's not an origin story for the original series.
