Okay, I have to get this off my chest and I don't know exactly how to word it, so I'm sorry if this sounds insulting.

Are people really so dense that they can't like a game all because of how it looks? If it's the same gameplay, the looks don't matter, really. I didn't like how Fallout 3 looked but I beat it because the gameplay was fun. So really, what's the big deal? I don't think people should be getting so attached to games like this.

I think the problem is that it's a replacement of something else. People wanted a DMC5 with the Dante they used to know, and then this game replaced it. If this was being made alongside DMC5, there wouldn't be such a cry-fest I imagine. I think it's a bit short-sighted to say that the upset is due to "just how it looks", also a bit much to call us all dense, come on, we're attached to a character and style, not just graphics.

As I said, I didn't know exactly how to word it. Sorry...

At least now I know what's going through people's minds. that's really all I wanted to know, and I'll pursue the issue no further.

Yes but that's just a cutscene, the guys who make that are probably not the people working on the combat engine

Oh I'm not talking about the combat. The gameplay could be very good. We have to wait and see. ^_^

@DT- Ya know, we have a ranting thinking thread for getting stuff off your chest. I just don't want people to get mad at you is all. :(

But to answer your question, let me ask you this; would you buy and wear an ugly shirt? I wouldn't. I'd much rather buy and wear a nice shirt. As for looks in video games, it matters to me. New Vegas bored the ever living hell out of me. I hated wandering around a stupid wasteland. As for your second bit, I've made it very clear its not the DMC label given to the game that annoys me. So I'm in no way attached to the series.

Also, a brief trailer is all we have to go off of. No gameplay or anything like that. So at this point how it looks is the only thing we can like/dislike about it. And so far I dislike the way it looks.

Slim chance of being like the past 4 DMCs, but that really depends on how much influence Capcom Japan has on the gameplay development. I'm assuming it will be like heavenly sword but with DmC painted on it, but it better have a jump button.... The only action game i liked without a jump button was God Hand.

You cannot deny that the look of a game is important in stylish action games, because you need to feel the things you are doing are cool to add weight to them. If Dante was an overweight clown who used balloon animals to fight would you feel the same about playing him? New Dante doesn't look that bad, but he certainly at the moment feels like Edward or the lead singer of an EMO band. I'm not looking to pick up emo chicks ok I just want to kill some demons.

No I wouldn't and I didn't.

Granted he wasn't overweight but he was a clown with unnecessarily silly weapons.

Its not so much the new Dante so much as the over all style of the game that screams "generic cash in on 'cool" to me.

This quote jumped out at me. Remember the opening tutorial battle and cut scenes between Dante and Nero in DMC4, or that cut scene in DMC3 where Dante used Lady's motorcycle as a bat on a bunch of demons? What was all that?

The style of the DMC games, taken in context of Japanese video games, is rather generic and tries to cash in on "cool" as much as possible, too. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend that DMC's later iterations represent some avant-garde series and that Capcom and NT are suddenly turning it generic. They're not. But yes, they do need more people to pay money for their work, and another rehash of Dante swinging his big sword around whilst his red coat billows in the wind and he lays the cheese on thick ain't gonna cut it.

Ha! Yes, this exactly. The chaps and heavy leather did him no favors, either.

Well, seeing that it isn't a game yet but just a teaser trailer... I like it so far. I like the artistic changes they've done for the surroundings and for Dante's character. And the trailer hints that the storyline will be much deeper and richer than the previous which I like in a game. So yeah, I am rather positive at this point.

Agreed I just hope it's something original and not just

"grr Vergil I thought you were dead"
"nope"

DMC3 and 4 are campy and don't take themselves seriously. Like with those ridiculous weapons Dante uses like Nevan and Pandora as well as his over all personality. Or how about him riding around on one of Lady's missiles? I'm not saying the older DMCs were "avant-garde" cause they weren't, but the new DmC seems to take on the image of some twisted MTV cash in on "cool."
