You know, one of most amazing feelings for me the first time I played DMC4 was getting to fight Dante (the second time I mean, the tutorial doesn't count). Think about it, the series' main protagonist and the most badassly powerful being at that point is now your enemy. It was intimidating and daunting. The battle was supposed to be near impossible to win and his AI, despite being weak to a couple of loops that players eventually discovered in time was meant to reflect that. And let's be honest, the first times, everyone got their asses destroyed by the red coated demon hunter.

I want something like that in this. And something tells me it's gonna be Nero vs Vergil this time. "I've got a score to settle with that son of a bitch", he says. He could be a secret boss or something. I'd love for Capcom to do that.
Well I know Nero and Vergil already met with Vergil giving Nero the "War" treatment. It's the way you worded your post that confused me. Like I want Nero to fight Vergil post DB removal and see thier revelation as father and son in the story.

i'd say V is nero's devil trigger in 4 separating itself

Nero's Devil Trigger wasn't his. Nero doesn't have a Devil Trigger, he uses Vergil's from the Yamato. No Devil Arm, no Devil Trigger.

He'll probably have a power amp from the Devil Breaker (as that's all a DT is), but thematically, I can't see him having a Devil Trigger himself.

Going by the assumption that "V" is the third character shown on the right of the cover art, I'd bet heavily against him being Vergil, but have you ever considered that this is a game coming from Japan? Where they love, love, love weird naming conventions? Everyone is assuming that V is pronounced "vee" and not "five," hearkening to fifth entry shenanigans. DMC lore is rife with humans attempting to gain (d-d-d-d-demonic) power through experimentation and ritual practices, a fifth patient is right up Capcom's alley. Whether he is his own person, a clone, or is even male, is anyone's guess.

yeah, that's what i meant in that particular speculation, i'm assuming V is a fragment of Nero separating itself, be it from devil bringer-yamato [although it's related to vergil but it was once technically in nero], or the demonic portion of nero.. which i really need to ask here, how much of nero is demonic?

adding up, kyrie isn't showing up there is she? considering blood is there in the trailer, would capcom drastically kill kyrie and this particular event led V to break out of nero? --still with speculation V is part of nero

why nero? cuz the hint is in his battle theme..

that this is a game coming from Japan?

yeah, but this episod of devil may cry is having a bold direction in going realism and indirectly western approach, so there's that probability this time

Whether he is his own person, a clone, or is even male, is anyone's guess.

ofc, this is a speculation thread, let's just enjoy and have fun speculating, no harm or loss in being wrong

After @Stylish Nero mentioned it, I'd be cool if he is an older Demi-Fiend come to help Dante out.

I thought he might be a younger Vergil who we play in flashbacks but feels like a copout.

Nero yells at Kyrie to "get back inside" which is probably given with the intruder that takes his arm. The blood is more than likely because he just got his arm ripped off.

There might also be too much of a stretch in what the lyrics to Devil Trigger mean, as well. When was the last time lyrics in DMC music ever directly correlated to events in the series? It's mostly ever been about theming, and in this case, it's the theme of the Devil Trigger, something the characters have and unleash from within themselves, something they "let it out."

Here's a theory. What if Nero simply hasn't discovered his DT? What if it's easier to use a DT through a devil arm than it is to go DT yourself?

In DMC1, Dante was careful to only use his DT during every swing, and the forms were that of the devil arms. What if they retroactively decided that this was because Dante wanted to save as much energy as possible for when he fought Mundus? The same logic could apply to Nero - he didn't know how to go DT himself, and it's simply easier with a lower energy cost to use devil arms to achieve that power-up.

I was always in the mindset that Nero did the same thing Dante did with Sparda in 1 only difference is Sparda didn't come back to kick his own sons ass for a piece of weaponry. Essentially Nero got yamato and assumed his father's own DT but since Neros only 1/3rd demon he wasn't able to take a full demonic transformation of his father's DT like Dante to Sparda so he at best was only able to manifest an avatar.

I kind of assume it's more like Dragon Ball Z logic - whatever fraction you have, those abilities are dominant ones that are always passed down. Except, in this case, it's just as difficult to discover your DT, if not a tad harder.

I think it's more interesting for the story as well - allows other characters to be as badass as Dante and Vergil. Dante didn't discover his DT until DMC3.

Perhaps. Like you said, given that Dante originally needed a Devil Arm to trigger, since he couldn't until Alastor in DMC1. By DMC4 (chronologically), Dante has a fairly unique trigger that doesn't seem tied to a Devil Arm, similarly in DMC2.

In DMC1, Dante was careful to only use his DT during every swing, and the forms were that of the devil arms. What if they retroactively decided that this was because Dante wanted to save as much energy as possible for when he fought Mundus? However, the discrepancy here is that in DMC3, Dante gets his trigger after fighting Vergil, as Rebellion "awakens," allowing him to change his form (which is altered slightly with different Devil Arms). Yet, in DMC1, he can't trigger with the Force Edge (and the Rebellion is mysteriously absent entirely), and when he does trigger, his form only appears when actually attacks with a weapon, and those forms look more unique from one another. Then in DMC4, he has the Rebellion again, and also has is very own form that seems wholly unique from the arms he uses. None of it is consistent.

This is the problem with trying to apply lore to this franchise - half of everything that was done was simply for aesthetics, and has little bearing on what story they create that allows for demon slaying action.

It should come as very little surprise that we definitely think much harder about this stuff than even the developers do. For instance, Nero is pretty obviously Vergil's son, and yet the fandom goes nuts trying to figure out why a one-dimensional villain character would do the horizontal polka with anyone, let alone a human.

yeah i get all that, but it was specifically said that the hint for V is in nero's theme, wether the lyrics and video or just the video i dunno.. or was it just easter eggs? well that would mean V doesn't have to be related to nero and i'm stretching too much..

anyway, it's fun to talk about this with nothing to talk about in years

DMC1 could be explained by Dante conserving his energy. If he needed that extra boost of power, he would only use it briefly for his intended attack.

But very true. As you pointed out, I can't imagine them thinking about DMC1 let alone how to make all the inconsistencies lore... heck, we've had 5 games, 2 novels, an anime, and multiple mangas so far, and none of them explain if Dante creates his own demonic bullets, or if he actually reloads the weapons as far as the story is concerned. If my memory is right, one of the novels mentions him reloading handguns, but the second he gets Ebony and Ivory - nothing. Not a single mention of reloading again.

Wish they would put more effort into the universe. As fun as it is to speculate on the laws of the world, you can only do it for so long before you want answers. It's like a loop - speculate on something > get answer > creates new questions > more speculation. We've barely gotten many answers, haha.

so nero is running a branch of devil may cry which is the van, will that mean the main office will be therr on the game?

who's running the main office?

will we have some case ordering/clients scenario in the game for missions like the anime? or the office n branch will only be there for the sake of being there?

can V be related to the two sparda apprentices in the anime? they did morrison, so maybe?

Morrison or Lady could be running it.

I did not think of that. That would be cool.

Nero running a mobile demon-hunting business is probably just a way for him to end up in the town and to explain how he can constantly get more upgrades with a traveling shop with Nico. Dante is probably still running the office.

Or maybe the office is gone, it did randomly blow up at the end of DMC4, 'member~? /s

Pretty sure that wasn't really the office blowing up so much as it was done for campy flair. :P
