DayZ 1.0 is launching out of Xbox Game Preview on March 27th

Bohemia Interactive's long-in-the-works online zombie survival game, DayZ, finally leaves the Xbox Game Preview and launches in its Version 1.0 on March 27th.

On March 27th, we'll be bringing over all of the changes of the PC 1.01 update - in short, that means persistence fixes, better server performance, improved inventory performance, new weapons and scope, and more! In addition to these, we'll also bring in new things specific to Xbox. There's quite a few of those, so let's just cover the main ones in bullet points:

  • improved rendering performance (should prevent many FPS drops in graphics and audio)
  • optimized inventory performance (improvements in performance when you have a lot of items around you on Xbox)
  • better inventory interaction (changes in UI and better navigation in inventory, bugfixes)
  • new controller layout
  • introducing some missing controls (hold breath, leaning, dodging, better optics interactions...)
  • general improvements to player controls
  • night time improvements
DayZ - Every Day is a New Story (Cinematic Trailer)

There is also a PC Update scheduled to release on the same day but content and changelog hasnt been revealed yet.

PC Stable Update 1.02 (patch notes)

The second Platform Update of DayZ is out on Steam (both the game update and server files update). Along with many quality of live improvements, fixes and tweaks, it reintroduces two .308 caliber weapons and what's arguably the most luxurious transport option the post-apocalyptic Chernarus offers: the mighty Olga 24 sedan.

While the 1.02 update does not have a strict theme, a lot of work has been done to streamline the inventory design and functionality (yes, you can move with your inventory open again!). The game design team also put emphasis on promoting stealth gameplay when dealing with the infected, and also went through a couple of iterations on the night time experience.

DAYZ TURNS A CORNER

Its taken some years, an engine overhaul, development hell and plenty of hate from frustrated gamers & fans but it seems that the widely known DayZ Standalone (created from the popular DayZ Mod) has started to turn a corner finally.

Not only have the recent reviews started to turn towards a very positive rating its player base is also on the increase yet again.

As someone who is a fan of the game but was often left frustrated by development decisions & long periods between updates this is welcome news. With mod support in full swing, the new map on the way (Namalsk) and the DayZ Expansion mod coming soon its beginning to look like the game has a bright future ahead of it at last.

"Hundreds of thousands" of us are playing DayZ since it joined Xbox Game Pass

Hundreds of thousands" of new players have jumped into DayZ since the survival game joined the Xbox Game Pass library last week.

Citing "a huge influx of new players", developer Bohemia Interactive says the "hardcore survival game is flourishing now more than ever, and has become one of the Most Played games on Xbox".

"Over the years, DayZ has gone through a difficult development, but at Bohemia Interactive, we never lost faith in the game - so seeing its record player numbers across all platforms is a very rewarding moment for the whole team. For us, it also confirms that DayZ still remains an unmatched and unforgettable survival experience."

At time of writing this it is also 50% off on PS4 with 20% off the Livonia DLC.

The eagerly anticipated DayZ Expansion has been released

Hello survivors,

We're extremely pleased to announce that the DayZ Expansion mod has now been released! We have spent 1 year, 5 months and 16 days working on this project, and we would just like to personally thank each and everyone of you for getting us to this point, we couldn't have done it without you, the community. We would also like to thank the official DayZ Developers who have helped us many times throughout the mods life in order to get certain features completed.

Additionally, we would also like to thank the supporters for donating to us and allowing us to buy assets we previously were not able to buy. Lastly, we would like to thank the testers, due to their consistent hammering away at the mod, they have helped us identify more bugs in the past month, than we have internally in the past 5 months.

The mod is now available on the Workshop, although it may take some for server owners to launch a server on it! Please note, this is the first time the mod has been public, so please expect some problems! Any problems you do have, you can report to the bug-report channel in our discord, and any suggestions you have, you can report to the feedback channel in our discord!

Once again, we would just like to thank each one of you for sticking by us whilst we worked on this, and I hope the wait finally paid off for you guys! We hope you will enjoy the mod, and have a lot of fun with it! We love you all,

DayZ Expansion Mod Team <3

Personally I use the DayZ Standalone Launcher to easily launch my mods.

It has been 2 years since I updated this thread but its a game I still go back to time and time again and it seems that DayZ has still been going from strength to strength too. 8 months after it had broken its highest ever concurrent player record, it has done so again. On Sunday 8th January it had set a new record of 61,294 concurrent players which is 3054 higher than the previous record. While it has also been maintaining a 24 hour peak average of around 50,000 players which is rather impressive for what is essentially a 10 year old game at this point (standalone is 5 years old).
