Would Assassin's Creed even work during WWII or later?

We already had one based in America during the civil war. For WWII it could be and assassin sneaking onto ships or into Nazi bases to assassinate the forces one by one.....buuuuut maybe that might be putting it too close to home with there still being veterans and all.

@DragonMaster2010
it was the revolutionary war not the civil war.

I wouldn't want a WW2 game as that period is too popular and too played out but tackling the played out eras (like Feudal Japan, Wild west etc) depends on providing a new perspective to that era. So putting a Templar as the lead for the Feudal Japan game or Wild West game would be interesting.

They can try assassins in Brazil, Indonesia & Thailand.

Brazil - capoeira
Indonesia - Pencak Silat
Thailand - muay thai

Even in Japan, they can try the Meiji era after the Sengoku period. The wild west is best too. And in WWII, there can be someone who once served the Nazi army and fights against its leader. The 1920s/30s could work too with a gangster vibe.

I'm always going to say Mexico. There are so few Mexican protagonists I can only think of one off the top of my head and I can't imagine there been that many.
